Operations Manager About Us O'Donnell Metal Deck LLC is a national structural steel distributor with 20+ locations across the country, specializing in open web steel bar joist and metal deck. We're growing rapidly and evolving our internal operations to match. As we continue to scale, we're looking for smart, proactive people who thrive in process-driven environments and want to make a real impact. Position Summary We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Yard Lead with an active Class A or Class B CDL to oversee material flow in and out of our yard. This role blends hands-on physical work with operational oversight, requiring strong organizational skills, confidence in problem-solving, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities. As the primary on-site leader for the yard, you will be responsible for managing shipping and receiving, maintaining accurate inventory, and ensuring the yard remains organized, safe, and operating efficiently. You will also execute local deliveries and coordinate transportation activities to support customer deadlines and business needs. This position requires a high degree of ownership, reliability, and accountability. Dependability is critical—we make promises to our customers, and keeping them starts with you. Schedule Normal hours are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with flexibility required to start early or stay late as business needs dictate. Deliveries may occasionally require early morning starts, extended hours, or schedule adjustments to meet customer requirements. Key Responsibilities Manage local and OTR deliveries, including coordinating with vendors and customers. Check in incoming material deliveries and coordinate pickups. Pull and prepare customer orders for shipment. Cut, stack, palletize, and band materials. Load and unload OMD, customer, and third-party trucks. Operate Combi-lift forklift and/or telehandler. Update job tracking system and maintain accurate records. Receive, check, and organize stock material; spray paint bundles for identification and rotate stock. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Execute local delivery schedules, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries. Complete delivery documentation, delivery receipts, and other required paperwork. Maintain organized records of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle inspections. Provide professional customer service during deliveries and pickups. Report vehicle maintenance issues promptly and assist in maintaining clean, safe, and roadworthy vehicles. Physical Requirements Frequently lift, carry, and handle materials weighing 70+ lbs. Stand, bend, and move throughout the yard for extended periods. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Operate heavy equipment safely in a fast-paced environment. Why Join Us? Requirements:
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training a plus. Valid Class A or Class B CDL with a clean driving record required . Prior CDL driving experience, preferably involving local deliveries required. 1+ years of forklift operation (required). 1+ years of experience reading and using a tape measure (required). Prior experience in shipping/receiving, warehouse operations, or heavy equipment operation strongly preferred. Strong commitment to safety and compliance. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
