Job Description
Position Summary The Crating & Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all crating, packaging, shipping, and logistics operations to ensure products are properly protected, accurately documented, and delivered safely and on schedule. This position manages shipping personnel, coordinates with production teams, and maintains compliance with company, customer, and transportation requirements. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Supervise and lead daily crating, packaging, and shipping operations. Plan, schedule, and prioritize shipments to meet customer delivery requirements. Ensure products are properly packaged and crated to prevent damage during transportation. Coordinate domestic and international shipments with freight carriers, brokers, and logistics providers. Review shipping documentation including bills of lading, packing lists, export paperwork, and carrier manifests. Monitor shipping costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce expenses. Train, mentor, and evaluate shipping and crating personnel. Enforce workplace safety standards and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies. Coordinate with production, purchasing, and project management teams to support delivery schedules. Maintain inventory of crating materials, packaging supplies, and shipping equipment. Investigate shipping discrepancies, freight claims, and damage reports. Operate and oversee the use of forklifts, overhead cranes, and material handling equipment as required. Maintain organized shipping areas and accurate shipping records. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience in shipping, logistics, packaging, or crating operations. Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience. Strong knowledge of freight shipping methods including LTL, FTL, expedited, and specialized transportation. Experience preparing export documentation and coordinating international shipments preferred. Ability to read drawings, packing specifications, and shipping instructions. Proficient with ERP systems, shipping software, and Microsoft Office applications. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and material handling. Ability to work in a manufacturing or warehouse environment. Preferred Experience Industrial manufacturing, sign manufacturing, steel fabrication, or custom equipment shipping experience. Knowledge of ISPM-15 export crating requirements. Experience coordinating oversized, heavy-haul, or specialized freight shipments. Familiarity with inventory control and warehouse management systems.
