As a Route Service Technician Lead, you will serve as a key leader in daily operations, supporting route coverage, training team members, and ensuring service excellence across assigned accounts. This role combines hands-on driving responsibilities with leadership, mentorship, and operational support. Key Responsibilities Pick up and transport waste safely according to all federal, state, and local regulations. Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service while servicing assigned routes. Transport medical waste safely across designated service areas, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Provide route coverage and operational support on short notice for vacations, call-outs, and urgent service needs. Train, mentor, and support new and existing Route Service Technicians across day and night shifts. Partner with Supervisors to ensure route efficiency, service consistency, and operational success. Assist with onboarding and field training, reinforcing safety and compliance standards. Utilize routing systems, manifests, and company software to manage daily operations effectively. Support office operations and administrative needs when not actively on route. Assist other departments within the district, including Reusable Sharps and other operational teams as needed. Ensure proper loading, securing, and transportation of waste and supplies. Complete all required documentation accurately, including DOT logs when applicable. Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns promptly. Adapt to a dynamic schedule with varying start times, including day and night shifts. Other duties as assigned. Requirements High school diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license and current DOT Medical Card required. Minimum of 3 years' experience operating 26 ft. and 28 ft. box trucks. Previous leadership, training, or lead driver experience preferred. Strong planning, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while also supporting and guiding a team. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. High attention to detail with a strong commitment to safety and compliance. Dependable, adaptable, and able to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to work flexible schedules and support multiple operational needs.
