Job Description
Ritter Foods LLC is a 100+ year-old Philadelphia food company specializing in meat and poultry distribution and the manufacturing of quality sliced sandwich steaks. We serve retail supermarkets, meat markets, distributors, foodservice operators, and institutional customers across local, regional, and national markets. We are seeking a hands-on Warehouse / Shipping Supervisor to help lead daily warehouse, order picking, staging, loading, shipping, inventory, and dock activities in our refrigerated and frozen food distribution operation. This role is ideal for a practical, organized, floor-oriented supervisor who can lead hourly employees, maintain accuracy, reinforce safety, and keep product moving efficiently in a fast-paced cold-storage environment.
Important schedule note:
Our warehouse and distribution operation runs on a multi-shift, 24-hour basis. The successful candidate must be flexible and willing to work the shift, hours, weekends, and schedule necessary to meet operational, staffing, shipping, and customer service needs. Key ResponsibilitiesWarehouse & Shipping Supervision:
Supervise daily warehouse and shipping activities, including order picking, staging, loading, shipping, receiving support, product movement, and dock organization.Team Leadership:
Direct, coach, train, schedule, and hold accountable warehouse employees, selectors, forklift operators, loaders, and other shift personnel.Order Accuracy & Fulfillment:
Ensure customer orders are picked, checked, staged, loaded, and shipped accurately and on time.Inventory Control:
Help maintain inventory accuracy through proper product rotation, lot control, cycle counts, location discipline, and timely reporting of discrepancies.Cold-Storage Product Handling:
Reinforce proper handling, storage, temperature control, rotation, and protection of refrigerated and frozen meat and poultry products.Shipping Documentation:
Maintain and review bills of lading, manifests, pick tickets, packing lists, receiving records, and other warehouse/shipping documentation.Safety & Housekeeping:
Enforce safe work practices, proper forklift and equipment usage, clean dock and warehouse conditions, and compliance with company safety policies.Equipment & Facility Awareness:
Monitor forklifts, pallet jacks, dock equipment, warehouse machinery, and general warehouse conditions; report maintenance issues promptly.Communication:
Coordinate with distribution management, drivers, dispatch, sales, customer service, purchasing, QA, production, and other departments to resolve issues and keep orders flowing.Process Improvement:
Identify practical ways to reduce errors, improve productivity, strengthen accountability, improve loading flow, and create a more efficient fulfillment process. Ideal Candidate Profile- Previous supervisory, lead, or management experience in a warehouse, shipping, distribution, cold-storage, food, meat, poultry, or perishable-goods environment.
- Strong working knowledge of warehouse operations, order picking, staging, loading, receiving, inventory control, shipping documentation, and dock operations.
- Comfortable supervising hourly employees in a fast-paced, physically active operating environment.
- Forklift experience required; forklift certification preferred or ability to successfully complete certification/training.
- Experience with inventory systems, warehouse software, data entry, and Microsoft Office or similar business software.
- Strong attention to detail, urgency, follow-through, and ability to meet deadlines under time-sensitive shipping schedules.
- Good communication skills and the ability to coordinate with drivers, supervisors, managers, sales, customer service, QA, and other departments.
- Solid understanding of safety, housekeeping, equipment usage, and proper handling of refrigerated/frozen food products.
- Physical ability to work on the warehouse floor, stand/walk for extended periods, work in refrigerated/frozen areas, and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
- High school diploma or GED required; additional education or training in logistics, warehousing, supply chain, food distribution, or management is a plus. What We Offer
