Job Description

Job Title:
Shipping and Receiving Lead 1st Shift $25 -$27 per hour based on overall experience. Job Description The Shipping and Receiving Lead supports a small fabrication shop that produces heat exchanger equipment for the power generation, petrochemical, HVAC, and pulp and paper industries. This role ensures the accurate, timely, and organized flow of materials in and out of the facility, maintains precise inventory records, and closely supports production by coordinating the movement of goods throughout the shop. Responsibilities Receive incoming materials, inspect them for damage or defects, verify quantities, and match all items against purchase orders and packing slips. Prepare outgoing shipments by accurately picking and packing orders, labeling packages, and completing all required shipping documentation. Update inventory systems promptly and accurately, monitor stock levels, and report any discrepancies or issues with materials to the appropriate personnel. Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely to load, unload, move, and stage materials throughout the warehouse and shop. Coordinate closely with production teams to deliver materials and components to work areas as needed to support on-time fabrication and assembly. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient warehouse and shipping area, ensuring materials are stored properly and are easy to locate. Follow all safety procedures and shop policies while handling materials, operating equipment, and working within the warehouse and production areas. Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners regarding shipment status, delivery schedules, and any issues with orders or materials. Support basic logistics activities, including arranging shipments, working with carriers, and tracking deliveries when required. Provide courteous and professional customer service when interacting with drivers, vendors, and internal stakeholders. Essential Skills Proven experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations. Ability to read and interpret packing slips, purchase orders, and shipping documents accurately. Ability to work on computers and learn new software systems used for inventory and logistics. Basic computer proficiency for data entry, inventory updates, and documentation. Forklift experience with the ability to operate material-handling equipment safely. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate counts, documentation, and inventory control. Mechanically inclined mindset to handle industrial materials and equipment safely and effectively. Effective communication skills to coordinate with production, vendors, and carriers. Additional Skills & Qualifications Forklift certification preferred. Experience with inventory control processes and best practices. Experience in logistics or distribution environments. Customer service experience in a warehouse or shipping and receiving setting. Familiarity with SAP or similar inventory and ERP systems. Ability to adapt to and learn shop-specific software and tools. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a smaller fabrication shop environment located in Ooltewah, TN, offering a hands-on, team-oriented setting rather than a large, impersonal warehouse. The position works a consistent schedule of five 8-hour days, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Work involves regular use of forklifts and other material-handling equipment, handling industrial materials used in heat exchanger fabrication, and working in both warehouse and production areas. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, with an expectation that employees maintain orderly work areas and follow all safety procedures. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
