Position Overview The Yard Lead is a hands-on working leadership role responsible for order fulfillment, forklift operation, will-call management, delivery loading, inventory management, purchasing execution, receiving, and day-to-day direction of the yard team. This role ensures yard standards are maintained, customer demand is supported, and inventory is available for daily operations. Responsibilities Yard Operations & Customer Service Pick, pull, and fulfill orders accurately Operate forklifts and yard equipment safely Manage will-call orders; assist customers professionally Load and prepare deliveries for drivers Verify items and quantities before loading Maintain a clean, safe, organized yard Lead and direct the yard team daily Communicate yard conditions to management in real time Take initiative and stay productive without micromanagement Receiving & Order Management Identify and verify incoming special orders Tag and place special orders with customer name, job/order number Update Spruce with order notes, locations, and pull status Monitor upcoming will-calls and deliveries to ensure readiness Communicate shortages and purchasing needs to Operations Manager Inventory Management & Purchasing Monitor daily inventory levels; maintain adequate stock Create and submit purchase orders based on trends and demand Coordinate with vendors on availability and delivery schedules Track open POs and follow up on outstanding shipments Verify incoming inventory; report shortages or discrepancies Maintain accurate locations and quantities in Spruce (our point-of-sale system) Assist with cycle counts and full inventory counts Flag slow-moving, damaged, or excess inventory to management Investigate discrepancies; implement corrective actions Prevent stock-outs that could impact customers or operations Maintain min/max stocking levels set by management Coordinate Post on Pipe (product category) transfers from Kent warehouse to Tukwila Qualifications Required Servant-leadership mindset Excellent customer service skills Strong organizational and planning skills Attention to detail and follow-through Problem-solving ownership of operational issues Punctuality and top-tier attendance Comfort with inventory/purchasing software Preferred Leadership experience in yard, warehouse, lumber, or building materials Inventory management and purchasing experience Ability to forecast needs and prioritize purchasing Forklift certification or experience Work Environment Physical Requirements Trial Period Lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly Stand and walk 8-10 hours per day Work in all weather conditions This position includes a 30-day trial period. Continuation is based on demonstrated performance in: attendance, attitude, productivity, order accuracy, leadership consistency, inventory management, purchasing execution, inventory accuracy, yard standards, and ownership of inventory control processes.
