Job Title:
General Laborer - Yard and Shop Support Job Description The General Laborer supports industrial repair and refurbishment operations by cleaning, prepping, organizing, and moving large manufacturing components such as pumps, tanks, and heavy industrial parts. This hands-on role works both in the outdoor yard and indoor shop, assisting with sandblasting and painting preparation while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work area. Responsibilities Clean and prep large industrial parts, including pumps, tanks, and other manufacturing components, for repair and refurbishment. Perform pressure washing and sandblast preparation to ensure parts are ready for painting and repair processes. Assist with painting preparation, including masking, taping, and staging parts for coating. Organize, stage, and track parts throughout the yard and shop to maintain accuracy and workflow efficiency. Move and position large parts using forklifts, cranes, or manual rigging assistance after proper training. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized yard and work area, promptly removing debris and cleaning up after tasks. Assist shop personnel by moving parts in and out of work areas as needed to support repair and refurbishment operations. Use hand tools, power tools, and basic measuring tools such as tape measures to support daily tasks. Follow all safety procedures, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and report any hazards or unsafe conditions. Support general construction-style and carpentry-related tasks as needed within the yard and shop. Essential Skills Experience in a yard labor, general labor, industrial, construction, or manufacturing environment preferred. Ability to perform physical, hands-on work and remain comfortable working around large, heavy industrial parts. Capability to lift, push, pull, and move materials throughout the shift. Basic experience using hand tools and power tools in a labor or construction setting. Ability to use a tape measure and follow basic measurements accurately. Strong attention to organization and accountability for tracking and staging parts. Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic, with the ability to follow directions and complete tasks safely. Commitment to following safety procedures and consistently wearing required PPE. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in industrial repair, refurbishment, or a manufacturing yard environment is a plus. Forklift or industrial equipment experience is an advantage but not required. Exposure to sandblasting, painting, and industrial cleaning processes is beneficial. Familiarity with carpentry or construction tasks is helpful in supporting shop and yard operations. Why Work Here? Work involves the use of hand tools, power tools, pressure washing equipment, and, once trained, forklifts or other material-handling equipment. The environment emphasizes safety and cleanliness, with required use of appropriate personal protective equipment and practical work attire suitable for industrial yard and shop conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
