General Laborer Job Description This hands-on General Laborer role supports daily operations in a fast-paced metal fabrication shop. You will work across multiple departments, including welding, machine operation, warehouse, and light office support, to keep production running smoothly. This position is ideal for someone reliable, hardworking, and eager to learn different aspects of the business while building a long-term career path. Responsibilities Assist with material handling by moving parts and staging products throughout the shop to support efficient workflow. Support welders, machine operators, and fabricators with day-to-day tasks as needed. Load and unload materials and finished goods safely and efficiently. Perform basic shop cleanup and organization, including sweeping, removing scrap, and maintaining a clean and safe workspace. Help with inventory activities, including receiving materials and supporting general warehouse tasks. Assist with basic machine operation or preparation work under supervision when needed. Provide general support across production, warehouse, and office areas to ensure smooth daily operations. Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others. Essential Skills Experience in general labor, construction, production, or a similar hands-on environment. Ability to perform material handling tasks, including moving and staging materials and products. Basic understanding of inventory control and warehouse processes. Ability to assist with clean up, stocking, and moving materials throughout the facility. Comfort operating or learning to operate equipment such as forklifts, under proper training and supervision. Willingness to work in a physically demanding environment and lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand on your feet for extended periods during the shift. Strong work ethic with a team-first mindset and willingness to help wherever needed. Ability to take direction, be coachable, and adapt to changing tasks throughout the day. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Comfort working in a metal fabrication shop environment with heat, noise, and industrial equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Interest in learning multiple areas of a metal fabrication business, including welding support, machine operation, and warehouse functions. Willingness to develop skills in forklift operation with proper training. Ability to provide light office support when needed, such as basic paperwork or coordination tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
