Material Handler Operator

Your Role:

Unloading, sorting, and loading scrap metal You will be a key operator responsible for managing the flow of material into the scrapyard, utilizing a Develon Material Handler equipped with either a grapple or an electromagnet. You will work with the public, companies, and other employees to help keep scrap metal flowing quickly onto and off of the yard. You will be operating heavy equipment in close proximity to passenger vehicles and hauling equipment. This role is crucial for efficient operations and requires precision and experience in high-volume material handling.

Key Responsibilities:

Expert Operation:

Safely and proficiently operate a medium size material handler primarily for moving scrap metal, including unloading, sorting, and loading to ship.

Loading & Unloading:

Efficiently and accurately load outgoing shipments and unload incoming trucks, trailers, and containers of various scrap metal grades.

Material Management:

Strategically move, stack, sort, and organize ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal inventory across the yard.

Equipment Care:

Conduct thorough pre-shift and post-shift inspections (P.M.s), fluid checks, and general maintenance to ensure peak machine performance and longevity.

Safety First:

Strict adherence to all company and OSHA safety protocols, actively contributing to an injury-free work zone.

Collaboration:

Communicate effectively with yard staff, scale operators, and managers to coordinate efficient material flow.

Requirements:

Proven Heavy Equipment Experience is

REQUIRED.

Strong preference for previous experience operating an Excavator, Material Handler, or other similar heavy equipment. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude for performing routine maintenance, identifying issues, and basic troubleshooting.

Safety Mindset:

Comprehensive knowledge of industrial/heavy equipment safety regulations and procedures.

Physical Capability:

Must be able to perform all physical duties of the role, including safely climbing into/out of the cab, working in all weather conditions, and lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs as needed for maintenance.

Dependability:

Consistent attendance and reliable transportation to the job site are essential.

People Skills:

You will interact with other employees or customers on a daily basis.

Pay:

$17.00 - $19.00 per hour
