Job Title:
Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler transports and organizes materials within a large structural steel manufacturing facility. This role operates forklifts, overhead cranes, and related equipment to move materials safely and efficiently between designated locations, while closely collaborating with production teams to maintain a smooth and safe workflow. Responsibilities Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling machinery to transport materials safely and efficiently throughout the facility. Load and unload materials in both the air-conditioned production bay and outdoor areas, ensuring accurate placement and organization. Collaborate closely with welding teams, machine operators, supervisors, and other team members to support seamless production operations. Use RF scanners and related tools to assist with inventory tracking, picking, and material movement within the structural steel manufacturing process. Maintain clear and consistent communication with team members and supervisors, providing regular updates on the progress of daily tasks. Follow and uphold all safety protocols and procedures, actively contributing to a culture where workplace safety is the top priority. Support general labor and production activities as needed to keep material flow and operations running smoothly. Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both indoor and outdoor environments. Essential Skills Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Strong safety awareness and a proven commitment to following safety protocols as the highest priority. Effective verbal communication skills to provide progress updates and coordinate with team members and supervisors. Physical ability to perform labor-intensive tasks, including lifting, moving, and handling materials in both indoor and outdoor settings. Experience with material handling in a production or industrial environment. Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with RF scanners for inventory management and material tracking. Background in structural steel manufacturing or industrial manufacturing environments. Experience with crane operation and forklift operation; overhead crane and forklift experience are considered strong pluses but are not strictly required. Experience with picking, general labor, and production support tasks. Demonstrated job tenure and a desire to grow with an employee-owned organization are considered advantageous. Ability to adapt to working in both climate-controlled and outdoor environments. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a large structural steel production facility that combines both indoor and outdoor work. Approximately half of the work takes place in an air-conditioned production bay, and the other half occurs outdoors in the yard and surrounding areas. The environment is industrial and fast-paced, with regular interaction and coordination among welding teams, machine operators, and other production staff. Material handling equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, and RF scanners are used daily to support operations. Team members should be comfortable working in varying temperatures and weather conditions, as well as in a busy manufacturing setting that prioritizes strict adherence to safety standards and procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Mirage, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.45 - $22.15/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
