Job Description

Job Title:
Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler safely moves raw materials, in-progress work, and finished metal products throughout a manufacturing facility to support efficient production and shipping operations. This role operates sit-down forklifts and other material handling equipment, follows production orders, and ensures materials are accurately staged, labeled, and prepared according to specifications. The position plays a key role in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and production environment. Responsibilities Load, unload, and move raw materials, in-progress work, and finished metal products throughout the facility. Pull, stage, and organize materials based on production needs and work orders. Operate sit-down forklifts to transport materials safely throughout warehouse and production areas. Read and follow basic production orders to ensure materials are accurately prepared for processing. Use tape measures and basic measuring tools to verify material sizes and specifications. Assist machine operators by supplying materials and maintaining consistent workflow. Palletize, label, and stage finished products for shipping or storage. Perform shipping and receiving tasks, including loading and unloading trucks and verifying materials. Pick, pack, and prepare orders according to instructions and inventory records. Use pallet jacks and other material handling equipment to move products efficiently. Perform basic inspections to ensure materials meet quality and production standards. Conduct visual safety checks and report damaged materials or unsafe conditions promptly. Support inventory control activities such as cycle counts, labeling, and inventory tracking. Use basic computer skills to update inventory information and order status as needed. Maintain clean and organized work areas in both warehouse and production spaces. Follow all company safety guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Operate all equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures. Essential Skills Proven experience in material handling within a warehouse or manufacturing environment. Proficiency operating sit-down forklifts safely in warehouse and production areas. Experience with pallet jacks and other common material handling equipment. Experience in warehouse operations, including shipping and receiving, order pulling, picking, packing, loading, and unloading. Ability to perform inventory control tasks such as cycle counts, labeling, and inventory tracking. Capability to read and follow basic production orders and work instructions. Ability to use tape measures and basic measuring tools to verify material sizes and specifications. Basic computer skills to support inventory and order processing activities. Ability to stand and reach with hands and arms for extended periods. Ability to walk, sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as required by the job. Ability to regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift, with assistance, up to 100 pounds. Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely and follow safety guidelines consistently. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a manufacturing or metal products environment. Experience in warehouse inventory management and inventory control processes. Familiarity with shipping and receiving documentation and procedures. Strong attention to detail when labeling, staging, and verifying materials. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy. Strong communication skills to coordinate with machine operators and other team members. Comfort working around loud manufacturing equipment. Work Environment You work in a manufacturing facility that can be loud due to production equipment and machinery. The role is physically active and involves regular standing, walking, lifting, and operating material handling equipment such as sit-down forklifts and pallet jacks. You spend time in both warehouse and production areas, handling metal products and interacting with various parts of the operation. Safety procedures and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) are strictly followed to maintain a safe and orderly workplace. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sacramento, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
