Material Handler Job Description This role oversees and supports daily shipping, receiving, packing, and material handling activities in a fast-paced logistics environment. The material handler coordinates the work of shippers, receivers, packers, and other material handlers, and also performs hands-on tasks as needed to ensure accurate and timely processing of domestic and international orders. Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day work of shippers, receivers, packers, and material handlers to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Perform shipping and receiving tasks, including preparing, labeling, and processing domestic and international shipments via FedEx and UPS. Use a computer and relevant systems to enter and maintain accurate shipping, receiving, and inventory data. Handle pallet preparation and movement of materials, ensuring items are properly packaged and staged for shipment. Operate a sit-down forklift and other material handling equipment safely to load, unload, and move materials within the facility. Process purchase orders (POs) and related documentation with a high level of accuracy. Ensure accuracy when processing orders, verifying quantities, part numbers, and shipping details. Support international shipping activities, including documentation and system updates, in line with established procedures. Monitor workflow in the shipping and receiving areas and step in to perform tasks directly when needed to meet deadlines. Maintain organized work areas and follow all established procedures for shipping, receiving, and material handling. Report to work on time consistently and support reliable, predictable operations. Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to resolve issues and keep orders moving on schedule. Essential Skills At least 2 years of hands-on FedEx shipping experience. At least 2 years of hands-on UPS shipping experience. Minimum 6 months of international shipping experience. Ability to use a computer confidently for data entry and order processing. Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for shipping and receiving activities. Proficiency in data entry with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Experience in shipping and receiving operations within a warehouse or logistics environment. Ability to operate a sit-down forklift and other material handling equipment safely. Demonstrated reliability in reporting to work on time on a regular basis. Proven accuracy in processing orders and handling shipping documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience overseeing or coordinating the work of shippers, receivers, packers, or material handlers. Familiarity with pallet preparation and material staging for shipment. Comfort working with purchase orders (POs) and related shipping documents. Ability to work independently and take initiative to complete tasks when workflow demands it. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously. The role involves regular use of sit-down forklifts and other material handling equipment, as well as frequent interaction with pallets, packaged goods, and shipping materials. The current openings are on second shift, typically from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., requiring comfort with an afternoon and evening work schedule in a fast-paced, process-driven setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of East Hartford, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.66 - $21.66/hr.
