They are responsible for site preparation, material staging, and assisting the specialized trades (carpentry, concrete, and pavement) to ensure continuous production flow. This role requires a high degree of flexibility and the ability to anticipate the needs of the Lead positions before a production delay occurs. Key Responsibilities Clear debris, perform manual excavation near utilities, and ensure active work zones are free of hazards before the Operator or Finisher begins. Cut rebar for the Carpenter, haul concrete finishing tools (e.g., bull float) for the Finisher, and stage thermoplastic blocks for the Pavement Tech. Provide active flagging and traffic redirection support under the guidance of the Traffic Control Technician. Maintains the safety taper during setup and teardown. Provides relief to ensure the work zone is never unmanned. Clean, organize, and account for all small tools and consumables at the end of every shift. Comply with DDOT and EPA environmental standards by managing silt fences, inlet protection, and washout areas. Critical Success Factors Ensure the flow of work remains consistent from the start. Stage all materials within 10 feet of the point of work for Operators and Finishers at least 15 minutes before Lead Tech requires them. Anticipate needs of Lead Techs without being asked (e.g., water for the concrete mix, propane tank for the melter). Maintain high physical endurance in hot weather including heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs) and constant movement. Serve as a Spotter for the Operator and Backup for the Traffic Control Tech during setup and teardown. Safety & Compliance Follow all HR policies, safety policies, OSHA regulations, and sitespecific safety requirements. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Participate in daily safety briefings and toolbox talks. Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and accidents immediately to the Field Supervisor. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Teamwork & Communication Work cooperatively with all crew personnel. Communicate effectively about work progress, material needs, and potential issues. Assist with training less experienced workers when assigned. Follow directions from the Field Supervisor regarding daily work assignments. Required Qualifications Experience & Skills Minimum 6 months of experience in construction and roadway work preferred Able to use a tablet for basic management of tool inventory checkin/out Licenses & Authorization Must be legally authorized to work in the United States Ability to pass background check and drug screening Valid ATSSA or CCM Flagger Certification (required for DC sites) OSHA10 Hour Preferred Qualifications Bilingual (English/Spanish) Masonry or Carpentry Apprenticeship credits Power Tool Safety Certification Physical Requirements Able to stand 10+ hours and rapidly move/deploy 40 lbs traffic drums and 50 lb signage Work in all weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, snow, rain) Wear required PPE for extended periods
