Position Summary:
The Material Handler supports Alien Engineered Products fabrication, welding, coating, and field services operations by ensuring the right materials, parts, and assemblies are available at the right workstation at the right time. This role focuses on safe material movement, accurate identification and staging, and clean information flow between receiving, inventory, production, and shipping to keep jobs on schedule and minimize downtime.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safely load, unload, move, and stage raw materials, workinprocess, and finished goods using forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, and other approved handling equipment. Receive incoming material and components; verify counts, sizes, heat numbers, and documentation against purchase orders and packing lists; identify discrepancies and report them promptly. Tag, label, and identify materials clearly (heat numbers, job numbers, part numbers, location) to support traceability and quality requirements for pressurebearing, structural, and custom fabricated products. Deliver material to welding, fabrication, machining, coating, and assembly areas according to production priorities, work orders, and supervisor instructions. Stage materials, cut parts, and prepped components in designated, organized locations for Welding Processors, FitUp Technicians, and Welders to minimize waiting and improve throughput. Assist with kitting of jobs by gathering and verifying all required parts, hardware, and documentation for specific work orders or projects. Maintain organized racks, bins, and floor locations; ensure materials are stored safely and logically by size, type, and job. Support inventory control activities, including cycle counts, stock rotation, and location updates; help identify slowmoving or obsolete materials. Move completed assemblies to inspection, shipping, or next operation; protect surfaces and critical features during handling and transport. Handle scrap and waste materials appropriately, segregating by type and disposing or staging according to company procedures. Use basic computer or paperwork systems to record material movements, location changes, and job issues as required. Follow all safety procedures for lifting, rigging, forklift operation, and working around cranes, trucks, and active fabrication/welding areas.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or fabrication shop material handling role (or strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to train). Ability to read and understand basic shop paperwork: work orders, packing slips, job travelers, and simple drawings for part identification. Experience using forklifts, pallet jacks, and basic material handling devices; must be able to obtain/maintain company equipment certifications. Basic math and measurement skills for counting, verifying sizes, and checking quantities. Ability to work safely in an industrial environment and follow PPE and safety requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience handling plate, structural shapes, pipe, fittings, and fabricated weldments. Prior work supporting welding/fabrication or industrial service operations. Experience with basic inventory systems (paperbased or electronic) for tracking material movement and locations. Overhead crane and basic rigging experience/certifications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of safe handling practices for long, heavy, and awkward steel components and assemblies. Organization skills; able to keep yards, racks, and staging areas neat, labeled, and easy to navigate. Sense of urgency and awareness of how material availability affects production schedule and on time delivery. Clear communication with supervisors, welders, fitup, processing, and shipping/receiving personnel. Attention to detail, and willingness to pitch in where needed to keep jobs moving. Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and reach throughout the shift. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures, noise levels, and environmental conditions.
Employer has dress code:
Ability to wear required PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high visibility garments, and steel toe footwear; additional PPE as required in certain areas.
Work Environment:
This role works across the yard, receiving area, shop, and shipping/loading zones and is regularly around forklifts, cranes, trucks, fabrication, and welding operations. The Material Handler interacts closely with purchasing, production supervision, welding/fabrication teams, and shipping/receiving to support steady production flow and ontime delivery.
Performance Expectations:
Handles materials safely and without damage, following all equipment and traffic rules. Keeps materials organized, clearly identified, and staged ahead of production needs. Accurately records movements and reports discrepancies or issues quickly. Supports ontime project completion by responding promptly to material requests and adjusting to changing priorities.
