Job Title:
Warehouse Operator Job Description The Warehouse Operator safely and efficiently supports all warehouse functions, including shipping, receiving, inventory control, and material handling. This role focuses on wrapping and staging pallets, loading and unloading trucks, maintaining accurate documentation, and moving materials through production processes to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment. Responsibilities Wrap pallets securely to prepare products for shipment and storage. Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently using appropriate equipment. Complete packing lists and bills of lading (BOL) accurately for all outgoing shipments. Perform quality control checks on incoming and outgoing shipments to ensure accuracy and product integrity. Place inventory in the correct locations and maintain organized storage areas. Conduct deliveries to and from the warehouse when approved by insurance and as needed. Move work-in-progress (WIP) materials daily to support press, lamination, slitting, and converting operations. Stage film and other materials in advance to support continuous production workflows. Wrap and weigh finished products, ensuring proper labeling and documentation. Collect and organize trim and recycling bags on a daily basis to maintain a clean and efficient work area. Collect and organize core gaylords to support recycling and material reuse. Schedule less-than-truckload (LTL) and parcel pickups, coordinating with carriers to meet shipping deadlines. Operate a forklift safely for the majority of the shift, including moving pallets, staging materials, and loading/unloading trucks. Perform inventory checks and cycle counts regularly to maintain accurate stock records. Assist with material handling tasks such as making boxes and cutting cores as needed. Communicate clearly and professionally with team members, logistics partners, and internal stakeholders to support smooth warehouse operations. Essential Skills 2+ years of experience working within a warehouse setting. 2+ years of operating a forklift in a warehouse or similar environment. Proficiency in shipping and receiving processes, including handling LTL and parcel shipments. Strong warehouse inventory management skills, including inventory checks and cycle counts. Hands-on experience with material handling, including making boxes and cutting cores. Ability to perform logistics-related tasks such as scheduling pickups and coordinating shipments. Customer service skills to support internal and external stakeholders as needed. High level of attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation, labeling, and inventory placement. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, materials, and priorities in a busy warehouse. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support coworkers in daily operations. Capability to learn new processes and procedures quickly and apply them consistently. Dependability and reliability in attendance, task completion, and following through on responsibilities. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and workflow demands. Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written, to support safe and efficient operations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience performing quality control on incoming and outgoing shipments. Background in moving work-in-progress materials to support production processes such as press, lamination, slitting, and converting. Comfort working on a forklift for approximately 75% of the time while also completing inventory checks and related tasks. Ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace, including managing recycling materials and core gaylords. Familiarity with warehouse documentation such as packing lists and bills of lading (BOL). Strong problem-solving skills to handle day-to-day operational challenges in a warehouse environment. The shift runs Monday through Friday from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The position involves frequent forklift operation, material handling, and movement of work-in-progress materials in a production-oriented setting. The dress code requires steel toe boots, jeans or work pants without holes, and a t-shirt. Personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection, is provided. The environment is hands-on and active, suitable for individuals who enjoy physical work, organized processes, and consistent routines in a collaborative warehouse setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
