Job Title:
Material Handler - 1st Shift $19-$20 Job Description The Material Handler receives incoming material, prepares it for production, and ensures accurate movement and tracking of inventory throughout the plant. This role includes unloading trucks, operating a 2-ton overhead crane and forklifts, performing basic data entry, and cutting bar stock as needed to support machine operators and production schedules. Responsibilities Unload flatbed trucks and move 12-foot bar stock using a 2-ton overhead crane in a safe and controlled manner. Receive incoming material and verify shipments against purchase orders to ensure accuracy and completeness. Perform inventory transactions in the system as material moves into production and between locations within the plant. Enter data into the computer to maintain accurate records of material receipts, movements, and usage. Cut bar stock to specified lengths and perform chamfering and deburring to prepare material for machining. Operate a sit-down forklift to move, stage, and organize material throughout the facility. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area by following established safety procedures and housekeeping standards. Inspect material for obvious defects or damage and report any discrepancies or issues to the appropriate personnel. Assist with operating other warehouse or material-handling machinery as needed. Stand for the duration of the shift and safely lift and move objects weighing 50 pounds or more. Essential Skills Sit-down forklift experience in a production, warehouse, or manufacturing environment. Ability to operate or learn to operate a 2-ton overhead crane safely and confidently. Basic computer skills and ability to perform accurate data entry for inventory and material transactions. Ability to perform basic inventory tasks, including receiving material and verifying it against purchase orders. Physical ability to stand for an entire shift and lift objects weighing 50+ pounds. Self-motivation with the ability to follow safety procedures and maintain an organized work area. Experience working in general production, warehouse, or material handling roles. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a metals or metal fabrication environment. Previous experience operating an overhead crane. Familiarity with other warehouse machinery and material-handling equipment. Attention to detail when inspecting material and verifying documentation. Ability to work independently while supporting a team-oriented production environment. Why Work Here? The plant is climate controlled, with a typical manufacturing atmosphere that includes the smell of oil and metal. State-of-the-art machining and metrology equipment are in use, and material handling is supported by forklifts, overhead cranes, and other warehouse machinery. Employees have access to a well-appointed break room and a dedicated training room, reflecting a strong emphasis on learning and development. Work is performed on your feet for most of the shift, handling metal bar stock and other materials while following safety and housekeeping standards; attire should be appropriate for an industrial manufacturing setting and compatible with required safety equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bartlett, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
