General Labor / Storage Center Worker (Contract-to-Hire) Job Description This role supports a busy storage and warehouse center by performing a mix of sit-down forklift operation, general labor, and basic inventory tasks. You will help prepare storage units before they are sent to customers, assist with loading and unloading materials, and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. This is a hands-on position that requires reliability, self-motivation, and comfort working both indoors and outdoors in a large warehouse environment. Responsibilities Operate a sit-down forklift approximately 40% of the time to move, load, and unload materials and storage units safely and efficiently. Perform general labor tasks in the warehouse, including lifting, loading, and manual handling of materials. Work on storage units before they are sent to customers, ensuring they meet quality and readiness standards. Assist with basic inventory tasks using a computer, including tracking, updating, and verifying stock levels. Use a tape measure and basic hand tools as needed for production and preparation tasks. Support construction, production, and loading activities as required to keep operations running smoothly. Clean and maintain work areas, equipment, and storage spaces to uphold a safe and organized warehouse environment. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating forklifts and performing manual labor. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete daily workload and meet operational timelines. Work both inside the warehouse and outside as needed to support storage and warehouse operations. Essential Skills Proven warehouse experience, including general labor and loading tasks. Hands-on experience operating a sit-down forklift in a warehouse environment. Ability to perform manual labor, including general lifting and moving of materials. Comfort using a computer for basic inventory tasks and data entry. Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for production and preparation work. Self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently and stay productive without constant supervision. Strong awareness of safety practices when operating forklifts and performing physical tasks. Willingness to work Monday through Friday and remain open to working Saturdays as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in a storage center, production, or construction-related warehouse environment. Experience with cleaning and maintaining warehouse spaces and equipment. Familiarity with loading and unloading procedures for various materials and storage units. Ability to adapt to working both indoors and outdoors depending on operational needs. Reliable attendance and punctuality, with the flexibility to support occasional Saturday work. Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work in a large warehouse focused on storage operations, with duties performed both inside the facility and outside as needed. The environment involves regular use of sit-down forklifts, manual lifting, loading, and general warehouse equipment. Dress is practical and safety-focused, suitable for warehouse and outdoor work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bolingbrook, IL.
