Job Description

Job Title:
1st Shift Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler supports production by accurately and efficiently moving raw materials, components, and finished goods throughout the facility. This role ensures manufacturing lines remain supplied and organized while consistently following established safety, quality, and standard operating procedures. Responsibilities Move raw materials, components, and finished goods between warehouse and production areas in a timely and accurate manner. Load and unload trucks and verify incoming materials against documentation. Stage and deliver materials to production lines to meet build schedules and minimize downtime. Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and other material handling equipment after receiving proper training and certification. Pull and issue materials using pick lists or work orders, ensuring correct quantities and part numbers. Perform basic inventory transactions, including data entry and labeling of materials and finished goods. Assist with cycle counts and other inventory accuracy activities to maintain correct stock levels. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with facility standards. Follow all safety procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality standards while handling materials. Support general production needs, including basic assembly, machine operation assistance, and inspection tasks as required. Essential Skills Ability to safely lift and move 40-50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to stand, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks for the duration of the shift. Basic ability to read work instructions, pick lists, and follow written and verbal directions. Comfort working in general production, warehouse production, and order picking environments. Experience or comfort with production, general labor, assembly, machine operation, and inspection tasks. Willingness and ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or carts after training and certification. Prior material handling, warehouse, or manufacturing experience preferred. Forklift experience helpful, with approximately 2+ years of prior forklift experience preferred for higher-level operation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a manufacturing or assembly line environment is a plus. Prior forklift operation experience of about 2+ years is strongly preferred for advanced material handling tasks. Willingness to be trained and certified on forklifts and other material handling equipment. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate material movements and inventory transactions. Reliable attendance and punctuality to support a consistent production schedule. Ability to work collaboratively with production, warehouse, and inventory teams. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role operates on a 1st shift schedule, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the potential for shifts of up to 10 hours based on business needs. The position is based in a manufacturing and assembly line environment that involves working around production equipment, material handling equipment, and active warehouse areas. The work is physically active, requiring frequent standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions throughout the shift. Team members use forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and standard production and inspection tools to complete daily tasks. The facility emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, with employees expected to follow all safety protocols and maintain an orderly work area. Appropriate work attire suitable for a manufacturing and warehouse setting is required to support safe and efficient operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Freeport, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $22.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
