The Waste Material Handler is responsible for collecting, transporting, processing, and organizing a steady flow of waste and recyclable materials. These materials may include, but are not limited to, cardboard, plastic, scrap, refuse, and wooden shipping pallets. The Waste Material Handler supports safe and efficient material handling operations in assigned areas and may use site equipment, including balers, as trained and authorized. All team members are responsible for maintaining a safe, respectful, and healthy work environment.

Essential Functions Communicate professionally at all times with clients, teammates, and other contractors. Operate in assigned areas and perform daily waste and material handling duties based on client and site needs. Assigned areas may change depending on operational priorities. Safely collect, transport, load, unload, sort, and stage waste and recyclable materials. Assist with processing materials through site equipment, including balers, when trained and authorized. Comply with all safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures established by ABM and the Client. Responsibilities While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, bend forward, and kneel during the assigned shift. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and transport 10 or more pounds for at least 75% of the shift to complete physical tasks related to responsibilities. Come prepared to work with all assigned PPE and weather-permitting attire. Secure the necessary tools and equipment to perform assigned tasks at the beginning of each shift. Ensure that work equipment is clean and sanitized before, during, and after the shift. Collect and transport waste materials to the proper designated disposal, staging, or processing areas. Remove recyclable materials from trash or mixed material streams as assigned. Process cardboard by cutting, breaking down, and placing materials into gaylords, balers, or other assigned collection areas. Organize wood pallets through manual lifting or use of pallet jacks and place them in proper designated areas.
- Evaluate materials for proper disposal, processing, staging, or possible reuse as directed by site procedures.
- Maintain assigned work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition. Perform general support duties including cleaning, sanitizing, sweeping, mopping, and dusting as needed in designated work areas. Support changing operational needs and perform duties in different assigned areas throughout employment.

Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned. 1. Work Environment / Conditions Work is performed in warehouse, dock, and outdoor environments with exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and noise. 2. Escalation Expectations Escalates operational issues such as overflow, contamination, or equipment failure promptly. 5. Hazard Awareness Actively participates in maintaining a safety-first culture and follows all incident reporting procedures. Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older. Must meet all requirements to receive required site badges, including successful completion of a background check. Previous experience in waste handling, recycling, warehouse support, janitorial support, or general labor preferred. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment. Ability to follow site safety procedures and direction from supervisors and managers. Experience using pallet jacks, balers, or other basic material handling equipment is preferred. About Us ABM (
