Job Title:
Hand Cartoner - Secondary Operations Job Description This role supports the secondary operations department as a hand cartoner, manually assembling, loading, inspecting, and sealing cartons for finished products. You will work with cardboard, make custom cuts using machinery, and perform repetitive, detail-oriented tasks that require steady focus and good hand control. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work in a clean, well-organized warehouse environment and is eager to learn new skills. Responsibilities Manually assemble and form cartons in the secondary operations department according to production specifications. Insert products and associated materials into cartons accurately and efficiently. Inspect products, materials, and cartons for quality, ensuring they meet established standards before sealing. Seal cartons securely using appropriate methods and tools to prepare them for shipping or further processing. Operate equipment used to make custom cuts to cardboard, following safety procedures and work instructions. Perform repetitive packing and assembly tasks while maintaining consistent speed, accuracy, and attention to detail. Use basic hand tools and other equipment as needed to complete packing and assembly work. Work collaboratively with team members to meet production goals and maintain a smooth workflow. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all housekeeping and safety guidelines. Follow all safety training, including proper use of steel toe boots and any required protective equipment. Essential Skills 6 months to 1 year of experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment. Proven ability to perform repetitive tasks with steady focus and good hand control. Strong attention to detail in packing, assembly, and quality checks. Experience working effectively in a team environment. Willingness to learn new tasks, processes, and equipment. Basic general labor skills, including pick and pack and assembly work. Ability to use hand tools safely and correctly. Capability to operate basic material handling tools such as pallet jacks. Comfort working in a structured, production-focused environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with machine operating in a warehouse or manufacturing setting. Familiarity with RF scanners for tracking products and materials. Good manual dexterity for handling small parts and precise carton assembly. Openness to comprehensive on-the-job training for all aspects of the role. Reliability and consistency in attendance and performance. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a clean, well-lit, temperature-controlled warehouse and manufacturing facility that produces board and paper products for the art industry. This is a union environment with structured safety and operating procedures. You will work around packaging and cutting equipment, using hand tools, pallet jacks, and possibly RF scanners as part of daily tasks. Safety is a priority; you must wear steel toe boots and complete safety training before operating equipment or working on the floor. The work involves repetitive hand-cartoning, assembly, and packing tasks in a collaborative team setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wheeling, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
