Job Description

Summary The Material Handler reports to the Production Supervisor and is responsible for the safe handling, inspection, movement, and inventory management of raw materials throughout the facility. This role supports production operations by ensuring materials are accurately received, verified, staged, and delivered to machines in a timely manner. The Material Handler also maintains material warehouse organization, supports environmental and recycling processes, and assists with general plant cleanliness and equipment support.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Safely unload incoming raw materials and place them into designated rack systems.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of incoming material, verifying size, type, and weight against packing slips; report discrepancies to the Production Supervisor.
  • Enter material into JOBBOSS, pull raw material per order tickets, and deliver material to machines for day and night shifts.
  • Assign lot numbers, bar mark materials as required, and position materials at designated New Britain machines.
  • Process CNC material requests, cut material to specified lengths, and transport it to machines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the material warehouse, including saw areas and chip spinning areas.
  • Assist with production floor cleanliness and machine cleanouts.
  • Communicate material needs to the Scheduler and work collaboratively to minimize surplus bar stock.
  • Change metal scrap hoppers, dump brass scrap hoppers, and manage bar-end disposal, including emptying bar-end buckets daily at 3:00 p.m.
  • Assist Maintenance with oil reclaiming systems, including changing filters and ensuring operators have filtered lube oil.
  • Monitor steel scrap silo levels and notify the steel recycling vendor and Production Supervisor when levels reach 70% capacity or near 40,000 lbs.
  • Monitor wastewater recycling tank levels and notify the recycling company and Production Supervisor when service is required.
  • Manage cutting oil and lube oil inventory.
  • Remove and smash steel barrel lids for scrap disposal and cut up plastic drums for disposal in designated containers.
  • Complete scheduled cycle counts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Good hand-eye coordination, vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, and safety-toe boots).
  • Ability to become certified in lift truck and overhead crane operation.
