MATERIAL HANDLER
•YARD Job Description DWM Holdings is looking to fill a Material Handler Yard position. This position is responsible for the transportation of materials within the production department. This position will transfer material from one location to another and will be involved in the process of picking an order and staging material for the production process. This person reports directly to the Production Manager works closely with the Logistics Department, and is a member of the company's Production team.
Responsibilities:
Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near the plant, yard, or work site. Reads work orders and follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved. Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by crane, forklift, or by hand. Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit, using hand tools. Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys loads to destinations using overhead cranes, hoists, and material handling equipment. Assembles crates to contain products using hand tools and precut lumber. Restocks zone bins, baskets, racks, pallets, and cabinets within or near the plant. Stages finished poles and materials for shipment according to production schedules and shipping requirements. Verifies material quantities, part numbers, and shipping documentation prior to loading. Performs load securement activities in accordance with company procedures and applicable DOT requirements. Conducts visual inspections of materials and trailers before loading to identify damage or safety concerns. Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S and housekeeping standards. Performs daily inspections of forklifts, cranes, slings, chains, and other material handling equipment as required. Communicates with production, shipping, and transportation personnel to ensure timely and accurate deliveries. Follows all company safety policies, MIOSHA regulations, and PPE requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to remain self-motivated and anticipate production material needs. Strong attention to detail with respect to documentation and accuracy. Knowledge of safe material handling, loading practices, and
OSHA/MIOSHA
requirements. Forklift and overhead crane certification, or ability to obtain certification. Basic math and computer skills with the ability to learn new software programs. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Experience in material handling, shipping/receiving, or manufacturing preferred. Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, reach, and climb throughout the shift. Ability to safely work around forklifts, overhead cranes, suspended loads, and flatbed trailers. Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment, including exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and dust. Ability to wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and hard hats. Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
