Job Title:
Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler safely operates stand up forklifts to move, stage, and load heavy products in a fast-paced distribution environment. This role focuses on accurately picking orders, preparing shipments using computer-generated work orders, and ensuring all products meet quality and safety standards while working in a clean, modern facility. Responsibilities Operate a stand up forklift (Crown brand or similar) for approximately 75-90% of the workday to move, stage, and handle products weighing up to 2,000 pounds. Frequently get on and off the forklift to pull, pick, and stage product, including pushing and pulling pallets and bending as needed to adjust loads. Prepare orders for shipment using computer-generated work orders and follow instructions accurately. Check products for accuracy and quality before loading them into semi-trailers for shipment. Load products into semi-trailers in a safe, efficient, and organized manner. Ensure all products and shipments meet established quality specifications and company standards. Perform safety checks and basic inspections on warehouse equipment, including stand up forklifts, man-up lifts, and order pickers. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating equipment and moving materials throughout the facility. Maintain accurate inventory handling through proper picking, stocking, and staging practices. Support general warehouse operations as needed, including material handling, stocking, and inventory-related tasks. Essential Skills Minimum of 6 months of recent experience operating a stand up forklift, preferably with Crown brand equipment (other brands acceptable). Proven material handling experience, including loading, unloading, and moving pallets and products in a warehouse or distribution environment. Ability to read and write work reports and follow computer-generated work orders to pick and pull products accurately. Comfort using computers for order processing and basic warehouse system tasks. Experience with order picking, stocking, and inventory handling in a fast-paced setting. Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment while standing on your feet for the entire shift. Ability to safely push and pull pallets, bend, and move frequently on and off a forklift throughout the day. Comfort wearing steel-toe footwear for the duration of the shift. Willingness to complete a compliance check in accordance with company policies. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience using order pickers, man-up lifts, or similar warehouse equipment. Previous work in shipping, distribution, or manufacturing environments. Experience working with heavy products and high-volume order fulfillment. Strong attention to detail to ensure orders are accurate and meet quality standards. Reliability and flexibility to work mandatory overtime, including early start times or later end times as needed. Willingness to work occasional mandatory Saturday overtime, with advance notice provided. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a newly opened warehouse and distribution facility that began operations in February 2024. The distribution center operates in its own building, separate from the manufacturing area, and spans approximately 248,489 square feet. The environment is very clean, organized, and modern, with newer stand up Crown forklifts and an ongoing process to replace older equipment over time. Team members work in a fast-paced warehouse setting that involves standing for the entire shift and wearing steel-toe footwear.Multiple shifts are available:
a first shift running from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with mandatory overtime that may require starting as early as 4:00 a.m.; and a second shift running from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with mandatory overtime that may extend the end of shift to 11:30 p.m. In addition, employees work mandatory Saturday overtime approximately once a month, with notice provided in advance and occasional cancellations depending on business needs. The facility uses computer-based work orders and standard warehouse equipment such as stand up forklifts, man-up lifts, and order pickers, and maintains a strong focus on safety and cleanliness. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dayton, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.25/hr.
