About the
Role:
The General Laborer in the Utilities industry plays a critical role in supporting the construction, maintenance, and repair of essential utility infrastructure such as water, gas, and electrical systems. This position involves performing physically demanding tasks that ensure the safe and efficient operation of utility services that communities rely on daily. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and collaboration with skilled tradespeople to complete projects on time and within regulatory standards. The General Laborer contributes to the overall success of utility projects by preparing job sites, handling materials, and assisting with equipment operation. Ultimately, this position is vital in maintaining the reliability and safety of public utility services across various locations in the United States.Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy objects and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Able to lift 50 lbs. Basic understanding of safety procedures and willingness to follow safety protocols. Reliable transportation to and from job sites within the United States. Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions from supervisors. Legal authorization to work in the United States.Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a general labor or construction role, preferably within the utilities sector. Must possess a valid driver's license. Able to operate light machinery, mowers, trimmers and power tools. Familiarity with basic hand and power tools used in utility maintenance and construction. Basic knowledge of utility infrastructure systems such as water, gas, or electrical lines. Ability to operate light machinery or equipment such as forklifts or skid steers. mowers, and power toolsResponsibilities:
Assist skilled tradespeople and technicians with the installation, maintenance, and repair of utility infrastructure. Prepare and clean job sites by removing debris, setting up equipment, and ensuring materials are readily available. Mowing, painting, light carpentry, general cleaning, and other various small tasks.. Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently. Operate basic hand and power tools under supervision to support various utility projects. Follow all safety guidelines and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for self and team members. Perform manual labor tasks such as digging trenches, backfilling, and compacting soil as required. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate daily tasks and report any issues.Skills:
The required skills for this role include physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor tasks consistently throughout the workday. Attention to safety is critical, as the General Laborer must recognize hazards and adhere to safety protocols to prevent accidents. Effective communication skills enable the laborer to understand instructions clearly and coordinate with team members efficiently. Preferred skills such as familiarity with tools and equipment enhance productivity and allow the laborer to assist more effectively in specialized tasks. Additionally, problem-solving abilities help the laborer adapt to changing work conditions and contribute to the smooth progress of utility projects.
