Job Description
General Laborer / Material Handler. $20.hr, North Carolina Job Description This role supports an automation upgrade project at a large distribution facility by installing robotic arms, sub-stations, and related infrastructure. You will work as part of a project team to assemble and commission equipment, handle materials throughout the site, and maintain a clean and organized work area. This is a highly physical, short-term assignment lasting approximately 6-8 weeks, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and supply chain timelines. Responsibilities Install robotic arms on loading docks, including approximately 20 robotic arms and 40 sub-stations, as well as internal site fencing. Assemble and build robotic arms, stations, and related structures using hand and air-powered tools according to diagrams and instructions. Commission towers and equipment by following step-by-step diagrams and written procedures. Run wiring for power supply to products and equipment, ensuring proper routing and secure connections. Use pallet jacks to move, strap, and catalogue materials throughout the facility, including transporting materials via elevators. Support project teams by handling materials, staging components, and ensuring the right parts are available at the right locations. Perform general warehouse housekeeping, including sweeping, cleaning work areas, and removing debris to maintain a safe and organized environment. Work in various roles as needed, including inventory support, housekeeping, general labor, loading, packaging, and cleaning. Read and interpret blueprints and diagrams to correctly assemble and install equipment. Follow basic safety practices and site-specific safety procedures at all times. Communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, and team members to coordinate tasks and resolve issues. Maintain strong attendance, arrive on time, and complete assigned shifts without unapproved absences. Work independently once trained, taking direction well and following instructions without constant supervision. Engage professionally with project managers and fellow installers, representing the project team in a presentable and professional manner. Essential Skills Previous warehouse experience. Industrial general labor experience in a highly physical environment. Ability to lift 40-50 lbs consistently throughout the shift. Comfort working 8-hour days on a hard cement floor. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work with tools and mechanical assemblies. Ability to read and follow blueprints, diagrams, and step-by-step instructions. Experience using hand tools and air-powered tools for assembly and installation. Experience with material handling, including operating pallet jacks and securing loads. Good attendance record and reliability, with no tolerance for tardiness or unapproved absences. Ability to take direction well and follow established procedures. Understanding of basic safety practices in an industrial or construction environment. Ability to work independently once trained on processes. Strong communication skills to work effectively with team members and project managers. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience working on similar automation or distribution center projects. Exposure to robotics or automation installations. Experience in general construction, loading, packaging, and cleaning roles. Flexibility to work in multiple positions, including inventory support and housekeeping. Demonstrated ability to maintain perfect or near-perfect attendance on prior assignments. Comfort working in environments that are under construction, including messy, loud, and crowded conditions. Work Environment The work takes place in a multi-floor distribution facility that is currently under construction, which can be messy, loud, and at times crowded. Most work occurs on mezzanine and sub-mezzanine levels, involving frequent walking on cement floors and moving throughout the facility. Conditions include a mix of air-conditioned and open-air areas, and it can be hot in the summer. The role is incredibly physical, with substantial walking, lifting, and material movement. You will interact regularly with project managers, a team of approximately 22 installers, and 8 general laborers/material handlers. The standard schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch, typically 5 days per week for about 40 hours per week. Dress code allows jeans, safety-toe shoes or boots, and T-shirts, while avoiding loose or baggy clothing. High-visibility vests, safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, and earplugs are provided to support a safe working environment. A high level of visibility with the client requires that you remain presentable, professional, and committed to not cutting corners Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Wilmington, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
