This role ensures production lines have the materials, pallets, and supplies needed to operate efficiently while maintaining organization, safety, and food safety standards. The Utility / Set-Up Material Handler assists machine operators with roll staging, machine preparation, pallet handling, and general production support. This position requires the safe operation of tow motors (forklifts) and pallet jacks, the receiving and verification of incoming products and materials from vendors and carriers, and the use of the company ERP system for receiving, production documentation, and inventory tracking. The role is also responsible for maintaining organized staging and storage areas throughout the facility. Employees in this role may be required to work overtime as needed to support production schedules and business demands. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Material Handling & Production Support Support production operations by assisting machine operators with material staging, loading, and setup preparation. Assist with roll staging, roll loading, threading, and material preparation for production machines. Remove full pallets from production lines and stage them appropriately. Inspect pallets to ensure they meet quality and food safety standards. Place and wrap finished pallets for safe transport and storage. Maintain adequate supply of pallets, including shroud pallets and Food Tools pallets. Maintain organization and cleanliness in staging areas and material storage areas. Gather materials for samples, unwrap rolls, and replenish pallets, liners, headers, and other production supplies. Stage folders and cases for interfold lines and other production areas as needed. Assist with preparing casing lines for straight case jobs. Receiving & Inbound Materials Receive incoming shipments, deliveries, and raw materials from vendors and freight carriers. Safely unload trucks and trailers using tow motors (forklifts) and pallet jacks in accordance with all safety procedures. Verify incoming products against packing slips, bills of lading, and purchase orders for quantity, item, and accuracy. Inspect received materials for damage, defects, and conformance to quality and food safety specifications, and report any discrepancies, shortages, or damage to supervision and purchasing. Receive incoming materials into the company ERP system (goods receipt) and ensure inventory records accurately reflect received quantities. Label, stage, and store received materials in their designated locations following FIFO and food safety handling practices. Maintain accurate and organized receiving documentation. Equipment Operation Safely operate tow motors (forklifts) and pallet jacks to receive, move, and stage materials and finished goods throughout the facility. Follow all safety protocols when operating powered industrial equipment, including load limits, pedestrian awareness, speed, and travel-path rules. Operate forklifts only when current on required powered industrial truck (PIT) training and certification. Conduct pre-use inspections on forklifts and pallet jacks at the start of each shift and report any issues or defects to supervision before use. Production Systems & Documentation (ERP) Utilize the company ERP system to support receiving, production operations, inventory tracking, and material movements as required. Accurately record goods receipts, material transactions, and inventory movements in the ERP system in a timely manner. Accurately complete required production documentation and communicate any material, inventory, or operational issues to supervision. Operational Support Fulfill substitute duties in production areas where trained. Assist with machine setups and changeovers as directed by leadership. Support machine operators and production teams to ensure efficient operation and minimal downtime. Assist with housekeeping and organization throughout the production floor. Safety, Quality & Food Safety Follow all company safety rules and procedures. Adhere to all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards. Follow operational guidelines outlined in company work instructions, quality manuals, and the employee handbook. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in accordance with 6S principles (Safety, Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) and internal audit standards. Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Basic math skills and ability to read a tape measure. General manufacturing experience preferred. Receiving, shipping, or warehouse experience preferred. Understanding of production flow within manufacturing operations is beneficial. Skills & Abilities Ability to safely operate forklifts (tow motors) and pallet jacks; forklift certification required or obtained upon hire. Ability to use a company ERP system for receiving, inventory, and material transactions, or willingness to learn. Ability to verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and bills of lading. Strong attention to safety, food safety, quality, and productivity. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to communicate issues and production needs to supervisors and leadership. Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50-75 pounds with assistance when required. Ability to lift, move, and reposition shafts and materials throughout the shift. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on the production floor. Ability to push, pull, and maneuver production materials and equipment. Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Communication & Accountability The Utility / Set-Up Technician must communicate effectively with machine operators, supervisors, leadership, and the purchasing/receiving function regarding production issues, material shortages, receiving discrepancies, and safety concerns.
Accountability includes:
Maintaining organized staging and receiving areas as measured through daily area audits, 6S audits, and HACCP audits. Ensuring receiving accuracy and timely, correct ERP transactions so inventory records remain reliable. Supporting productivity goals through efficient material staging and machine support. Supporting product quality standards through proper handling and staging of materials and finished goods. Additional Expectations Employees may be required to work overtime as needed. This job description may evolve as business needs change. Employees are expected to perform other duties as assigned by management or supervision.
Pay:
$18.00 - $21.00 per hour
