Material Handler/Yard Worker East Portland near downtown Day Shift $21-23/hr. Job Description The Yard Worker supports day-to-day operations in the yard and warehouse by safely handling materials, operating a sit-down forklift, and assisting with deliveries. This role focuses on accurate order staging, inventory support, and maintaining a clean, organized work area while providing a high level of customer service at the yard and job sites. Responsibilities Assist with loading and unloading vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. Verify loads to ensure accuracy of orders before loading and after unloading. Ride along on deliveries to assist at job sites with loading, unloading, and material placement. Stage orders for deliveries so that drivers can depart on time with complete and accurate loads. Stock drywall and other materials while helping to maintain proper inventory levels. Keep delivery and will-call orders organized to support timely and accurate customer pickups. Perform inventory control tasks, including picking product, material handling, inventory management, and cycle counts. Use a sit-down forklift to move 8-28 foot pieces of steel and other materials safely around the yard. Use a tape measure and basic math skills to verify measurements and product specifications as needed. Keep the yard and warehouse clean, orderly, and free of safety hazards. Represent the company with a high level of customer service upon arrival at the yard, warehouse, and job sites. Perform other duties as assigned to support overall yard and warehouse operations. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Customer service experience with a focus on professionalism and helpful communication. Basic math skills to support measuring, counting, and verifying orders. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday. Demonstrated time management and planning skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Reliable attendance and the ability to show up on time consistently. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic issues related to orders, materials, and inventory. Ability to safely operate or learn to operate a sit-down forklift for material handling. Comfort working in a warehouse and yard environment handling construction materials. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with inventory control, including picking, material handling, inventory management, and cycle counts. Experience working in a construction, warehouse, or building materials environment. Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
