Job Title:
Material Handler - 1st and 2nd Shift Job Description This role provides critical shipping, receiving, storage, and order fulfillment services for finished goods, materials, supplies, parts, and equipment within a warehouse environment. You will handle materials safely and accurately, operate powered industrial trucks at various heights, and work across different temperature zones, including ambient, cold-room, and freezer areas. The position offers potential for temporary-to-permanent employment and requires strong attention to detail, consistent adherence to procedures, and reliable attendance. Responsibilities Pick, pack, sort, arrange, count, store, and process items for storage and shipment in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements. Ensure a high level of quality and accuracy so customers receive the correct products within the required timeframes. Receive materials and finished goods daily, verifying that the quality, type, and quantity of materials are correct. Review and confirm that all appropriate documentation, such as packing lists, accompanies incoming materials. Operate powered industrial trucks and distribution equipment, including equipment that requires working at various heights, after completing required training. Work safely and efficiently in multiple warehouse temperature zones, including room temperature, cold-room, and freezer-room environments. Follow all distribution and quality standards, including document control and quality policies, as outlined in company training and procedures. Understand and interpret team metrics to support operational performance and identify deviations from accepted practices. Maintain strong communication and customer service skills when interacting with internal personnel at equivalent levels. Recognize and escalate deviations from standard processes to prevent delays or errors in shipping, receiving, and inventory control. Start work on time each day and maintain strong attendance to support consistent warehouse operations. Complete all required training, including on-the-job training and standard training protocols, and apply this knowledge to daily tasks. Perform highly repetitive tasks while maintaining focus on safety, accuracy, and productivity. Walk, stand, reach, push, pull, and lift materials as required to complete daily warehouse activities. Follow all safety guidelines when handling packaged hazardous materials and operating equipment. Remain flexible to work different shifts, varying schedules, and overtime as needed to meet operational demands. Participate in occasional local travel if required to support distribution operations. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent required. 0-2 years of related experience in material handling, shipping, receiving, or logistics. Ability to consistently and independently follow policies, procedures, and instructions while meeting schedules. Ability to operate powered industrial trucks and other distribution equipment after training. Comfort working at various heights and willingness to be trained on cherry picker forklifts and similar equipment. Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate ERP systems, use Outlook, and operate shipping software. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in verifying quantities, product types, and documentation. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to push, pull, and handle loads up to 25 pounds on a routine basis. Ability to work in multiple temperature environments, including room temperature, cold-room, and freezer-room conditions. Strong attendance and punctuality, with the ability to start work on time daily. Effective communication and customer service skills for interacting with internal team members. Additional Skills & Qualifications Some experience in logistics within a life science or similar industry is preferred. Experience as a material handler, forklift or power industrial vehicle operator, or reach truck operator is beneficial. Ability to understand and interpret operational and team metrics. Comfort handling packaged hazardous materials in accordance with safety procedures. Willingness to work any shift with advance notice of shift changes. Flexibility to work varying schedules, hours, and overtime as operational needs require. Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining focus and quality. Work Environment This position is based in a warehouse environment with varying temperature zones, including room temperature areas (approximately 59-86°F), cold-room spaces (approximately 36-46°F), and freezer-room areas (approximately -4 to 23°F). The work involves highly repetitive tasks and requires continuous walking, standing, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds, with regular pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. You will routinely climb and may occasionally sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed to complete tasks. The role may involve handling packaged hazardous materials following established safety procedures. The noise level ranges from moderate to high, typical of an active distribution facility. You must be available to work 1st shift (generally 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with potential starts at 6:00 or 7:00 a.m. depending on daily needs) or 2nd shift (approximately 10:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m.), with flexibility for schedule changes and overtime as required. Occasional local travel may be needed. The work environment can involve varying degrees of stress throughout the day due to operational demands, and the organization provides reasonable accommodations to qualified employees with disabilities to enable them to perform essential job functions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Greencastle, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $20.35/hr.
