Position Summary The Material Handler plays a critical role in the daily operations of our recycling facilities by safely sorting, processing, loading, and moving ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This position helps ensure efficient yard operations while maintaining a safe work environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Material Sorting & Processing Sort, identify, and separate various grades of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including steel, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, and brass. Inspect incoming materials for contamination and ensure proper placement within the yard. Prepare materials for shipment and processing. Equipment Operation Safely operate forklifts, skid steers, loaders, and other material handling equipment. Assist with loading and unloading customer vehicles, trailers, roll-offs, and flatbeds. Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns. Customer Service Greet customers in a professional and courteous manner. Assist customers with unloading materials and directing them to designated areas. Provide a positive customer experience while maintaining safety standards. Yard Maintenance & Safety Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements. Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Participate in safety meetings and training programs. Qualifications Previous experience in recycling, manufacturing, warehouse, construction, landscaping, or heavy industrial environments preferred. Equipment operation experience (forklift, skid steer, loader, or excavator) is highly desirable. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform physically demanding work. Strong work ethic, reliability, and attendance record. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic math and communication skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are encouraged to apply.
