POSITION SUMMARY
The Warehouse Clerk in a metal fabrication setting is responsible for organizing, receiving, storing, and distributing metal materials and fabricated parts. This role requires an understanding of raw materials, metalworking processes, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on accuracy and safety. You'll be working closely with production teams, ensuring materials are readily available and in good condition.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receive and count stock items, and record data manually or using computer. Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards. Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors. Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other areas. Mark stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment. Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Determine proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities. Keep records on the use and/or damage of stock or stock handling equipment. Examine and inspect stock items for wear or defects, reporting any damage to supervisors. Provide assistance or direction to storage yard workers. Perform other duties as assigned Possesses strong organizational skills. Is detail-oriented and capable of noticing small errors on orders or defective aspects of products. Maintains physical stamina and strength required to move heavy equipment and product weighing up to 50 pounds. Works well with others. Exhibits strong communication skills, essential for working with other employees and with customers. Demonstrates knowledge of computer systems, and the ability to fix any unexpected glitches with these systems. Demonstrates the alertness and physical dexterity required to operate heavy machinery. Must be capable of managing time effectively and multi-tasking as necessary. Demonstrates familiarity with all warehouse safety precautions and is able to observe these at all times. High school diploma or GED is a plus Must be certified to operate forklifts and other machinery used for moving and transporting products. Must have experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and other inventory management software used by the company.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to perform each essential duty daily. Previous experience in warehouse or inventory management, preferably in metal fabrication environment. Knowledge of metal materials (e.g., steel, aluminum) and their uses in fabrication. Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and pallet jacks (certification may be required). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to read and understand material and equipment specifications, and safety instructions. Basic math skills for inventory management. Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 65 pounds occasionally. Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods. Physically fit to work in an industrial environment and tolerate exposure to varying physical conditions. Must be able to work extended hours when necessary. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate tools, equipment, and safety devices. Tolerance to loud noises, vibrations, dust, heat, and fumes within a fabrication shop environment. Ability to wear required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) includes safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, high visibility clothing, and hearing protection.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Industrial warehouse and manufacturing environment with heavy machinery, and overhead cranes. Strict adherence to safety procedures and use of PPE is mandatory at all times. Frequent interaction with production staff, supervisors, safety personnel, and quality control teams. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, depending on seasonal conditions.
