Job Description

Job Title:
Machine Operator and General Laborer Job Description This role focuses on operating and supporting a bagging line in an industrial manufacturing environment. You will run bagging and packaging equipment, perform quality checks, and handle manual labor tasks, including heavy lifting and housekeeping around the production lines. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, comfort working both indoors and outdoors, and a willingness to learn and take on a variety of production and general labor duties. Responsibilities Operate the bagging line machines safely and efficiently for approximately 10 hours per day. Perform quality checks on products and packaging to ensure they meet established standards. Work on the front bagging end or wrapper end of the manufacturing line, depending on production needs. Carry out heavy lifting tasks, including moving bags weighing 65 pounds or more. Perform manual labor tasks such as moving materials and assisting with general production activities. Maintain a clean and organized work area, with a strong emphasis on housekeeping duties around and under manufacturing lines. Assist wherever needed on site, including basic general labor tasks and supporting other team members. Follow all safety rules, procedures, and company policies at all times. Demonstrate dependable attendance and arrive on time for scheduled shifts. Collaborate effectively with coworkers and contribute to a positive team environment. Participate in training to become certified on forklift operation and use the forklift safely once trained. Identify and report basic mechanical issues and assist with troubleshooting under guidance. Essential Skills Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn machine operation. Ability to perform heavy lifting of 65 pounds or more on a regular basis. Comfort working on your feet for 8-10 hours per day. Ability to work safely and follow all safety rules and company policies. Strong work ethic and pride in producing quality work. Dependable attendance and reliability for scheduled shifts. Ability to work well with others and contribute to a team environment. Comfort working in an industrial environment, both indoors and outdoors. Basic troubleshooting skills for production equipment. Ability to perform manual labor tasks in a fast-paced production setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a general laborer, production worker, or machine operator is helpful but not required. Exposure to bagging lines, packaging, or general production environments is an asset. Interest in learning forklift operation and obtaining on-the-job certification. Experience with machine operation, machine operating, or packaging equipment is beneficial. Comfort handling materials such as bagged products and moving them safely. The role involves standing and walking for 8-10 hours per day, frequent heavy lifting, and working around bagging, packaging, and other production machinery. The environment is fast-paced and physically demanding, with a strong focus on safety and housekeeping to keep work areas clean and organized. Appropriate work attire suitable for an industrial indoor/outdoor setting is required. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Suffolk, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
