Job Description

The University of Virginia's College at Wise, located in the rural mountains of southwestern Virgiina, is seeking applicants for a TEMP Trades Assistant. The TEMP Trades Assistant candidate must be dependable and physically able to contribute effectively to our team. This role includes transporting and setting up items for campus events, managing the loading and unloading of materials, and ensuring moves are completed efficiently. The ideal candidate will have experience in warehouse or delivery work and be able to safely handle heavy lifting. This position is a great fit for someone seeking hands-on work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Duties Load and unload items safely using appropriate equipment such as dollies, pallet jacks, or forklifts. Transport items to designated locations using college vehicles. Operate vehicles with manual transmission and ensure safe driving practices. Use warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks to organize and move inventory efficiently. Trades Assistant must ensure all items are secured during transit and manage heavy lifting tasks safely to prevent injury. Maintain cleanliness and organization of moving equipment and storage areas. Follow safety protocols during loading, unloading, and driving activities to ensure safety for all team members and campus employees. Experience Prior experience in moving, warehouse work, or delivery driving is preferred. Ability to lift heavy loads consistently and perform physically demanding tasks is required. Previous experience with forklift operations or pallet jacks is a plus but not mandatory; training will be provided if necessary. Candidates should be dependable, physically fit, and committed to maintaining high safety standards throughout their workday. Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Develop an increasing familiarity with the skills and best practices of assigned trade. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs in order to complete jobs. The use of both hands and repetitive motion will be required while performing duties.
