OUR STORY
: Emergency Food Network (EFN) ensures that everyone in Pierce County has reliable access to the food they need. Since 1982, EFN has been the backbone of our community's emergency food system, distributing more than 14 million pounds of food each year to more than 75 food pantries, meal sites, and shelters. Our food comes from many sources: local donations, government Programs, and direct purchasing—all coordinated to create a dependable, nutritious supply for our neighbors.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Warehouse Associate is a flexible, hands-on team member who supports operations across the warehouse, stepping in wherever needed to keep work moving efficiently. This role floats between functions—such as order building, receiving, repacking, and volunteer support—adapting to daily priorities. The Associate helps ensure products are handled safely, volunteers feel supported, and operational needs are met. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to quickly shift between tasks while maintaining a positive, team-focused environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Support daily warehouse operations including receiving, sorting, staging, storing, rotating, and distributing products throughout the facility. Build, prepare, and stage agency and program orders accurately and efficiently. Load, unload, and transport products using forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other warehouse equipment. Assist with repack operations by preparing materials, stocking supplies, assembling packaging, labeling products, and supporting production workflows. Repackage food products according to established food safety, quality, and labeling standards. Support volunteer activities by helping explain tasks, demonstrating proper handling procedures, and creating a positive and welcoming environment. Maintain clean, organized, and safe warehouse spaces including dry storage, cooler, freezer, loading docks, and repack areas. Follow established cleaning, sanitation, and equipment maintenance procedures to support safe and efficient operations. Monitor product conditions and communicate concerns related to damaged goods, food safety, inventory discrepancies, or low supplies. Assist with inventory organization, product rotation, and accurate storage of products throughout the warehouse. Complete required documentation and records related to warehouse operations, repack activities, donations, shipments, and inventory movement. Assist with food drive donations by weighing, recording, sorting, and issuing receipts for donated items. Operate the EFN van and assist with pickups, deliveries, and transportation needs as assigned. Safely operate forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment in accordance with EFN policies and safety standards including EFN van, and box truck. Support warehouse-wide projects, special events, and operational needs assigned. Perform other warehouse duties and responsibilities as assigned to support efficient daily operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds independently or with a partner Experience using warehouse equipment such as forklifts or electric pallet jacks, or a strong willingness to learn (EFN will certify) Highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks, work independently with minimal supervision, maintain confidentiality, and step in to support additional tasks as needed Strong attention to detail with the ability to complete tasks accurately and on schedule Excellent customer service, communication, and time management skills Comfortable providing basic instruction and guidance to volunteers while helping create a positive and inclusive environment. Basic computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, and willingness to learn EFN's warehouse inventory system, FLOWTRAC Ability to obtain food safety certification if not already certified (EFN provides support) Works well within a team and collaborates effectively across departments Commitment to EFN's mission and values, including just, respectful, and dignified food access for the community. Must have a valid Washington State driver's license.
WORK SCHEDULE
Full-time Tuesday to Saturday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm with overtime paid for any hours worked over 40 each week
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires continuous talking and listening, frequent walking and standing, and occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds).
COMPENSATION
$25-$26 per hour (based on experience) Benefits include: 2 weeks of vacation accrued during first year, increases to 3 weeks' vacation in second year and third year, up to a maximum of 4 weeks per year after 4 years of employment Paid sick leave is accrued at 8 hours for each month worked We provide medical (low deductible) vision, dental, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance EFN currently covers 100% of employee medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance premiums. Future coverage levels may be adjusted based on organizational capacity EFN has a 403(b) plan and contributes 5% after the employee has been employed six months Ongoing opportunities for professional development, including monthly staff training
