POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of management, the Purchasing / Warehouse Specialist is responsible for purchasing materials, coordinating vendors and contractors, and overseeing the safe, accurate, and efficient operation of the warehouse. The role ensures that stock levels are maintained, field crews are supported, compliance standards are met, and facilities remain safe and organized in direct support of utility operations. This position requires working knowledge of utility line materials, effective vendor relations, and strong attention to detail. Demonstrated Computer skills including Excel, Word and NISC software are critical to success.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES OF THE PURCHASING / WAREHOUSE SPECIALIST
Inventory & Stock Control Stock, organize, and track regular line materials as well as consumable safety items and tools. Develop, implement, and administer Purchasing/Warehouse policies, procedures, and standards. Manage and continuously evaluate inventory and stock levels to ensure adequate materials and supplies. Work closely with other departments to review, assess, and determine material, equipment, and supply needs, changes, and updates. Work with Accounting thru the NISC software to monitor usage, set minimum/maximum levels, and conduct cycle counts, audits, and reconciliations. Coordinate disposal of obsolete, excess, or damaged stock. Maintain accurate records in the NISC system. Purchasing & Vendor Coordination Create and issue purchase orders within the NISC software; research and source alternative or new, unusual, or specialized items. Evaluate vendors for best overall value; resolve discrepancies related to pricing, delivery, quality, and warranties. Coordinate contractor material in/out of inventory. Work with Accounting to review invoices and reconcile billing. Warehouse Operations Receive, unload, and inspect incoming shipments; safely operate forklift and material handling equipment. Maintain a clean, orderly, and compliant warehouse environment (including RESAP compliance). Work with Administration to track and maintain safety data, including PPE and hot line tool testing and compliance records. Generate reports, logs, and documentation for purchasing, shipping, and inventory activity. Field Crew & Operations Support Occasionally deliver parts and materials to crews in the field. Perform local parts pickup as needed. Assist in moving trucks to maintenance locations. Provide storm/emergency support as required. Facilities & Grounds Coordinate repetitive facilities and grounds maintenance contractors as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education & Experience o High school diploma or equivalent required. o Two (2) or more years of warehouse, inventory, or purchasing experience, preferably in a utility, electrical supply company or construction, environment. o Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Licenses & Certifications o Valid WA driver's license (CDL or ability to obtain preferred). But not required o Forklift certification (or ability to obtain within 2 months). o Valid First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 2 months).
  • Knowledge & Skills o Strong knowledge of purchasing, warehousing, and inventory control practices.
o Familiarity with line hardware, electrical utility materials, and related equipment (highly preferred). o Proficiency with NISC systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. o Ability to research and negotiate purchases; analyze data and prepare accurate reports. o Effective written and verbal communication skills. o Ability to work both alone and collaboratively with crews, contractors, and vendors.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 40-50 lbs regularly. Manual dexterity to operate warehouse and office equipment. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including during emergency response.
