General Laborer- Job Description
- This role involves performing a variety of manual tasks to move freight, stock, and other materials, as well as supporting general warehouse and production operations. The General Laborer follows work orders and instructions to ensure materials are handled safely, accurately, and efficiently, using both manual methods and basic equipment such as trucks, tractors, and hoisting devices.
- Responsibilities
- + Attach identifying tags to containers or clearly mark them with identifying information to ensure accurate tracking and handling.
+ Read work orders or follow oral instructions to determine work assignments, material requirements, and equipment needs. + Record the number of units handled and moved using daily production sheets or work tickets to maintain accurate documentation. + Move freight, stock, and other materials to and from storage areas, production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, and containers by hand or using trucks, tractors, and other equipment. + Sort cargo before loading and unloading to ensure proper organization and safe handling. + Assemble product containers and crates using hand tools and precut lumber to prepare items for shipment or storage. + Load and unload ship cargo using winches and other hoisting devices in a safe and efficient manner. + Pack containers and re-pack damaged containers to protect products and maintain quality standards. + Carry required tools and supplies from storage areas or trucks to the work site and return them after use to keep the workspace organized. + Follow relevant equipment procedures, safety policies, and operational strategies to support secure and efficient material handling.

- + Verbal communication skills to understand instructions and coordinate effectively with team members.
+ Written communication skills to complete documentation, production sheets, and work tickets accurately. + Analytical and problem-solving ability to address issues in material handling, sorting, and packing. + Ability to work effectively as a team player and maintain a detail-oriented approach to all tasks. + Knowledge of relevant equipment such as trucks, tractors, winches, and hoisting devices used in material handling. + Familiarity with policies, procedures, and strategies that support safe and secure operations for the protection of people, property, data, and facilities. + High school diploma or GED required. + 0-2 years of experience in general labor, warehouse, or similar material-handling roles.
- Additional Skills & Qualifications
- + Experience operating basic material-handling equipment such as trucks, tractors, and hoisting devices.
+ Comfort with inventory tracking and documentation, including recording units handled and moved. + Ability to interpret work orders and follow oral instructions accurately. + Experience with packing and crating, including assembly, loading, unloading, and repacking containers. + Strong attention to safety practices and adherence to established procedures. + Willingness to perform a variety of physical tasks and assist in different areas as operational needs change.

- Pay and Benefits
- The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
