Job Description
The Wastewater Plant Manager plays a vital role in safeguarding public health and protecting the environment by leading the daily operations of the wastewater treatment facility. This position oversees the complex processes that transform wastewater into clean, environmentally safe effluent, ensuring the facility operates efficiently and in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The manager provides leadership and direction to plant staff, monitors treatment systems and equipment, and works proactively to maintain reliable, high-performing operations around the clock. In addition to guiding daily plant activities, the Wastewater Plant Manager manages budgets, oversees maintenance programs, and coordinates capital improvement projects that support the long-term sustainability of the facility. Working closely with engineers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and the community, this role helps ensure that essential wastewater services are delivered safely, responsibly, and with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. Key Responsibilities Operations & Compliance Oversee all wastewater treatment processes to ensure efficiency and regulatory compliance Monitor plant systems, equipment, and performance metrics Conduct inspections and troubleshoot operational issues Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations Maintain accurate operational logs, reports, and regulatory documentation Leadership & Staff Management Supervise, train, and evaluate plant personnel Assign and prioritize daily work activities Provide coaching, performance feedback, and disciplinary actions when needed Ensure staff maintain required certifications and training Maintenance & Facilities Management Oversee plant, equipment, and grounds maintenance programs Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed Identify and address equipment failures or operational risks Safety & Risk Management Enforce safety policies and procedures Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSA) Monitor workplace conditions and ensure proper use of safety equipment Take corrective action on safety violations Budgeting & Administration Develop and manage plant budgets Monitor expenditures and prepare financial justifications Prepare reports, purchase requests, and operational documentation Manage inventory of chemicals, equipment, and supplies Projects & Strategic Planning Coordinate capital improvement and construction projects Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and stakeholders Develop short- and long-term operational plans Improve efficiency, processes, and resource utilization Public & Stakeholder Engagement Respond to public inquiries and operational concerns Represent the facility in community meetings and events Coordinate plant tours and educational outreach On-Call Responsibility Provide 24/7 on-call support for plant operations Respond to emergencies and critical incidents as needed Minimum Qualifications Vocational/technical degree required (bachelor's degree preferred) Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience Candidates without a degree must have one (1) additional year of experience Licenses & Certifications Valid Class A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License (State of Florida) Valid Florida Driver's License (may be required) Must meet fingerprinting requirements Additional Information This is an essential position , requiring availability during emergencies Duties may evolve based on operational needs Employees may be required to work during declared or undeclared emergencies Why Join Us?
