Job Description

Wastewater Operations Supervisor This responsible supervisory position involves overseeing the day to day operations of the City's wastewater collection system, including lift stations, sewer mains, force mains, manholes, grease interceptors, and property. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Field Operations Manager and includes planning, scheduling, coordinating, and supervising the work activities of skilled and semi skilled personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs and supervises operational activities associated with the wastewater collection system. Conduct inspections of lift stations to detect malfunctions; initiate corrective actions. Ensures maintenance of accurate and complete records on system operation. Participates in new worker orientation; provides training and technical guidance to subordinates. Establish work schedules and ensure equipment and lift stations are properly maintained. Assists in developing and implementing operational rules, techniques, and procedures. Ensures safe use of all chemicals and mechanical treatment related supplies. Reads, records, and adjusts daily lift station operating parameters and equipment settings. Performs or coordinates preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual operational reports. Assists in preparation and management of a comprehensive division budget. Responds to emergency calls, sewer backups, and disaster related operational needs. Monitors and adjust lift stations manually and via SCADA automation. Ensures compliance with City, state, and federal wastewater and safety regulations. Utilizes maintenance work order software and maintains accurate asset inventories. (These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of wastewater collection systems, lift stations, and treatment processes. Knowledge of SCADA systems, pumps, electrical and mechanical components. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Ability to delegate work assignments and supervise field operations personnel. Ability to use and produce operational documents and reports using Central Square, Excel, Word, and other software. Ability to establish and maintain preventive maintenance programs. Ability to respond to emergencies and coordinate repairs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, regulatory agencies, contractors, engineers, and the public. Knowledge of OSHA and City safety requirements; ability to promote and enforce a safe work environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred. Eight (8) years of field experience, including three (3) years in a supervisory role. Valid Florida Driver's License Class "A" Florida Collections Certificate Intermediate MOT Certification (A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid). Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Walking, climbing, standing, smelling, driving, sitting, kneeling, bending and stooping.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work occurs indoors and outdoors, including around high voltage equipment, heights up to 25 feet, below grade, and uneven surfaces. Work outside is in various weather conditions with dust, dirt, fumes, raw sewage, and bugs. Work is performed in confined spaces, trenches, uneven or elevated surfaces.
