Job Description
This is a great opportunity for a student to learn about water resource management at a municipal level. Duties include, but are not limited to, inspection, maintenance, and associated data collection of stormwater wetlands, ponds, and other infrastructure, as well as other assigned tasks. Work is performed under the supervision of the stormwater specialist/project coordinator. Hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7 am - 3 pm. Preferred dates are May 18 through August 21 but open to adjustment to work with school schedules and other commitments. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Essential Functions Assists with data entry relating to surface water resources management. Assists with project and pond inspection. Assists with stormwater utility work. Assists with stormwater maintenance agreement tracking. Assists with development of stormwater and environmental plans and reports. Conducts field observations of projects and assists when needed in the record plan process. Conducts pond surveys using small, motorized watercraft. Assists with maintenance tasks and other duties as assigned. Works with other employees, contractors and contracted services. Updates and maintains GIS data. Prepares and maintains proper inspection files and records. Keeps the stormwater specialist/project coordinator informed of work activities and problems. Assists with inquiries from contractors and residents about stormwater issues and projects. Ensures proper handling of complaints and makes recommendations to supervisor where justified. Strives to use team philosophy whenever and wherever possible. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of computer software, including Office, databases and GIS.
- Thorough skill creating records, reports and files related to water resources and infrastructure.
- Thorough skill operating standard office equipment and applicable hardware and software.
- Thorough skill operating standard tools of the trade.
- Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
- Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.
- Ability to carry out duties and assignments independently, being attentive to detail.
- Ability to manage schedule and prioritize job duties in an effective manner.
- Ability to meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public as well as other city staff.
- Ability to perform administrative functions and tasks as required to maintain records and prepare reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
