Job Description

Description Summary Objective The purpose of this internship is to help oversee the educational outreach for the Solid Waste & Recycling Program. You will be providing educational resources and information on environmental sustainability and awareness throughout the broader community. Your work will promote environmental awareness, proper waste management practices, and recycling and composting education. Working with your supervisor, you will facilitate presentations, workshops, and community events aimed at engaging Beaufort County residents, schools, and local organizations. You will also help lead environmental sustainability initiatives within Beaufort County Government. You will help internal departments adopt greener practices and serve as an example for the broader community. Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Plan, coordinate and deliver presentations and workshops on recycling and solid waste topics. Alongside your supervisor you will visit schools, youth groups, and community organizations to provide age-appropriate environmental education. Create flyers, graphics, social media and other informative creatives to help educate the community. Attend and represent the County at public events, festivals and sustainability fairs. Foster and develop relationships with local environmental related organizations such as the Port Royal Sound Foundation and the Beaufort Litter Patrol. Under supervision, assist in project management and implementation of sustainability-related projects within Beaufort County government and the community. Performs related work as assigned. Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Must be a currently enrolled student in a college-level program. Supplemental Information All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
