Under general supervision, this position is responsible for locating and marking water distribution system infrastructure. Reports to a Utility Pipeline Inspection Supervisor.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Reads and interprets engineering drawings, site and utility maps to identify the location of related pipes, meter boxes, water services or structures that require marking; coordinates with contractors and other utility system locators at excavation sites to assist in locating water assets. Maintains equipment and supplies as needed; disposes of empty paint cans in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency requirements. Ensures the safety of City equipment, private property, and others by following proper safety procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.PERFORMANCE STANDARD

- Geography
- General knowledge of public utilities location and construction. Basic geography knowledge of the department's service area, an ability to read maps and utilize the global position system units. Equipment Operation
- Knowledge of the proper procedures for operating, inspecting and maintaining assigned equipment. Safety
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation and general construction work.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Computer Skills- Utilizes a personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet, ArcView and related software to effectively complete a variety of administrative tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma and 1-2 years of utility locating work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. This position requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment medical evaluation.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work. Some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (10- 20 pounds).
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odors, depths, textures, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES
