Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Landfill Operator to operate a variety of heavy equipment in the preparation and maintenance of landfill space, roads and in other dirt or material worksites at the City Landfill. Responsibilities Operates heavy-duty earth moving equipment such as bulldozer, track-hoe, articulated dump trucks, compactors and front-end-loaders to excavate, load, transport dirt, gravel and other materials to compact and cover solid waste materials in compliance with Arkansas Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ); operates fuel and water tank trucks at the Landfill site. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment, including checking oil and various filters, lubrication and wear-prone parts and cleaning of machines. Develops and maintains access roads and surfaces prone to erosion. Notifies the public and truck drivers of proper placement for dumping loads to ensure most effective spreading or compacting of waste and dirt or other materials. Checks job sites for obstructions, such as above and below ground utility lines, and other structures before operating equipment. Logs and maintains records of daily inspections on assigned equipment including but not limited to checking fuel, oil, lubricant, fluid levels, lights, tires and other wear-prone parts before and after daily operations; informs supervisor of equipment breakdown or other problems; notifies supervisor and Fleet Maintenance Shop of any deficiencies. Directs the work activities of other operators or laborers in the absence of a supervisor as assigned. Greases assigned equipment following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule. Cleans the exterior of equipment at designated wash site and cleans interior of assigned equipment at the end of each shift. Operates equipment requiring a Commercial Driver's License in the performance of the essential job functions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of techniques of loading heavy equipment. Knowledge of maintenance requirements of assigned equipment. Knowledge of Arkansas Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) rules. Knowledge of the characteristics of various types of soils and other materials. Skill in the operation of heavy earth moving equipment, such as track hoe, bulldozer, compactor, articulated dump trucks and front-end loaders. Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to perform manual labor as required. Ability to log and maintain simple records. Ability to perform preventative maintenance to include greasing, checking fuel, oil, lubricant, fluid levels, lights, tires, and other wear prone parts on assigned equipment in compliance with the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule. Ability to locate assigned work sites from instructions and maps. Ability to notice obstructions, such as utility lines, and unusual problems before starting equipment operations. Ability to direct activities of assigned work crews. Ability to complete Arkansas Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) certification requirements. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Ability to communicate effectively, orally.
Pay:
$40,019.20 - $56,201.60 per year
