ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Public Works Department, Solid Waste Disposal and Diversion Division, is seeking Solid Waste Workers to perform a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks associated with the daily operations of a transfer station. Current vacancies exist at the 27th Avenue Transfer Station located near Lower Buckeye Road and 27th Avenue. Future vacancies may occur at the Northgateway Transfer Station located near I-17 and Dixileta Drive. This position is responsible for performing landscape maintenance, litter patrol, operating a variety of equipment, including a 15-passenger van with trailer, and delivering seamless in-person customer service to transfer station customers including routing and directing traffic.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Basic knowledge of operating mobile computers and electronic devices.
SALARY Pay Range:
$19.07 to $28.17 per hour.
Hiring Range:
$19.07 to $22.08 per hour. Effective July 6th, the following pay rates will be in effect.
Pay Range:
$19.45 to $28.73 per hour.
Hiring Range:
$19.45 to $22.52 per hour.
Pay Range Explanation:
Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only:
Please understand that this is pay grade 134. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance. Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade. When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Six months of heavy manual work. AND some experience which provides skill in the use of tools such as air compressors, air wrenches, impact wrenches, electric drills and other hand tools. AND this position requires the ability to read and write in English. All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Work and Environmental Conditions Requirements:
Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Bilingual - Spanish Experience with: Communication systems, i.e., working with a two-way radio. Providing quality customer service to the public by telephone, email, or in person. Operating a forklift or similar construction equipment. Leading a team, supervisory skills.
