Job Description

Utilities Mech I starts at $18.91/hour. Depending on experience level II at $19.79, and level IIl at $21.04. This position also comes with a very generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; immediate earning PTO, 11 paid holidays, pension, and more.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment at the City's wastewater treatment plant and lift stations. Work involves performing preventive maintenance and repair work on tanks, pumps, motors and other equipment; and maintaining records of work performed and supplies consumed. Employee is also responsible for responding to after-hours calls in cases of sewer stoppage and pump failure and assisting other work crews in various utility system construction and repair work, as necessary. Reports to the Superintendent of WRD System Maintenance.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with troubleshooting, overhauling and repairing of all pumps, motors, blowers, valves, fittings, and other mechanical equipment associated with the WWTP, lift stations, collection and reuse distribution system. Maintains logs and records of preventive maintenance and repair work performed, and of supplies and materials requisitioned and consumed. Assists with or independently performs preventative maintenance on all WWTP, lift station, and related facilities equipment such as lubricating and adjusting equipment as scheduled. Responds to after-hours calls to repair or alleviate sewage stoppages, pump failures, well failures, etc. Insures the observance of safety regulations pertaining to tools, machinery, vehicles, work areas, and equipment utilities. Operates utility/construction equipment utilized in the department including bobcat, boom truck, tandem dump truck, Vac-Con etc. Skill to operate computers, tablets and smartphones as related to work orders/preventative maintenance software, collection/reuse system online maps and other mobile Apps which allow real-time viewing of WWTP/lift station data and locate tickets.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs ground maintenance, janitorial work, carpentry, cement work and painting as needed. Stocks parts and materials for plant maintenance. Performs other related work as required. High School diploma or GED certificate and 6 months of experience in mechanical, maintenance or building trades work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must obtain and maintain CDL class B driver's license and a Florida Class C Wastewater Collection Technician Certificate within 1 year of hire.
SPECIAL REQIREMENT
Possession of a Class "C" Wastewater Collection Technician Certificate from the Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association and possession of a C.D.L Class "B" License issued by the State of Florida. The ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card/Port Canaveral Badge for unescorted access to secure areas of Port Canaveral. Ability to pass annual respirator fit test.
