DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective The light equipment operator primarily supports operations of the Grounds and Cemetery Division of Public Works, but may support all Department divisions as required. The operator operates a variety of equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, highways, parking lots, and public grounds. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager and immediate supervision of the Division Superintendent, operates all Town vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. 2. Performs simple maintenance on equipment, including checking all fluid and oil levels, greasing all fittings, checking air pressure in tires, and checking all lights and safety equipment on each vehicle. 3. Report any major problem encountered while inspecting or driving any Town vehicle. 4. Perform laborer's duties to complete all Public Works related tasks assigned, including road repair, drainage installation and repair, landscaping, repairing plows, lifting, and carrying objects, and basic carpentry work. 5. Assist mechanics in repairing Town Equipment as needed. 6. Operate equipment in plowing snow, sanding operations and ice removal. 7. Participate in the on-call emergency listing. 8. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is continually active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to ten pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to one hundred pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment and clothing such as hearing protection, eye protection, foot and hand protection, and respiratory protection. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time benefit eligible position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel No travel is expected for this position. Required Education and Experience High School diploma or G.E.D. required; 1-2 Years of experience Additional Eligibility Qualifications Possession of or ability to obtain: A valid state driver's license with CDL Class B and Air Brakes endorsement with no active violations within the previous three years. Hoisting license 2B preferred. Work Authorization Provide appropriate documentation to verify your authorization to work in the United States.
