Job Description

CITY OF BAY CITY
Full Time
  • General Maintenance Equipment Operator Waste Water Treatment Plant
  • Sewer Division
  • L542 Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, installation, and repair in storm, sanitary, and combined Sewers.
Knowledge of the Sewer Departments City Works Program, ability to read sewer prints and maps, and knowledge of the Sewer Department standby procedure and Safety protocols. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices as it relates to this kind of work. Solve complex problems and work effectively under time constraints and pressure. Perform job duties with proper safety work methods and procedures. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the both the public and other City employees. Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and the ability to understands and accurately follow oral, verbal, and written instructions. Work independently and as part of a team to effectively to meet day-to-day operational deadlines. Read and interpret maps and drawings used in locating valves, mains, and service lines. Follow established safety procedures, utilize safety equipment, and monitor work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations. Perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions.
MIMIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Two years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair of the storm, combine and sanitary sewer systems. A valid State of Michigan Driver's License, including a Commercial Driver's License with "B", and "N" endorsements. A valid State of Michigan Industrial Storm Water Operator Certification is preferred. If a certification is not processed at the time of job acceptance, it will be required to obtain within six (6) months of job acceptance. Front wheel loader/ backhoe Safety certification is preferred. If a certification is not processed at the time of job acceptance, it will be required to obtain within six (6) months of job acceptance Will be required to successfully complete and maintain Pipeline Assessment, Manhole Assessment and Lateral Assessment program within 2 years of job acceptance. Forklift certification within 6 months of job acceptance. Must successfully complete MIOSHA Qualified Person Training within one (1) year of job acceptance. Must successfully complete and maintain certification for confined space entry within six (6) months of job acceptance. Must be willing and available to serve on the Sewer Department's stand-by list when needed. Other pertinent licensing or safety training required by management Must have and wear protective footwear. Footwear must provide toe protection for impact and compression resistance, and puncture resistance. Must cover employee's ankle and be a minimum of a 6-inch boot. Must meet standards per U.W.U.A.
