About the Team TechSource is seeking a Waste Management Technician to support mission-critical waste management and ESH&Q operations within highly regulated nuclear facilities, ensuring safe, compliant handling, characterization, and disposition of hazardous and radioactive materials in alignment with national security objectives. About this Role The Waste Management Technician performs technical work supporting the handling, inspection, packaging, and storage of hazardous and radioactive waste materials. Technicians ensure waste materials are managed safely and in compliance with established procedures. Key Responsibilities- Handle, package, label, and store hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste materials.
- Perform inspections and characterization reviews on waste containers to verify proper handling and storage requirements.
- Operate mechanical equipment such as forklifts or drum handlers to move and stage waste containers.
- Assist with waste segregation, repackaging, and container preparation activities.
- Maintain accurate records for waste profiles, inventory, inspections, and disposal documentation.
- Conduct visual inspections to identify prohibited materials or compliance issues.
- Support laboratory or facility operations by transporting waste containers and materials between designated areas.
- Follow detailed operating procedures and safety protocols for hazardous material handling.
- Assist with troubleshooting operational issues related to waste handling processes. Work Environment 100% onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. The site location is a one-way, approximately 45-minute drive from Santa Fe and approximately 90-minute drive from Albuquerque.
- Must be willing to work around radioactive materials in compliance with safety protocols.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance, which includes successfully passing a federal drug test and federal background check.
- A High School Diploma, or equivalent is required; an Associate's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or related degree is preferred. Desired Qualifications

- Experience handling hazardous or radioactive materials or working in industrial waste operations.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment such as forklifts.

- Coordinate waste management operations including handling, categorization, packaging, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste materials.
- Perform and verify waste characterization to ensure proper handling, labeling, segregation, categorization, and packaging of waste, while supporting the preparation and review of operating procedures, work planning documents, and safety documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal (EPA, NRC, etc.) and state regulations and organizational procedures governing hazardous and radioactive waste.
- Maintain records including waste profiles, storage inventories, inspection logs, disposal documentation, and shipping paperwork.
- Provide oversight and guidance to waste management technicians and field operators.
- Monitor waste storage areas to ensure proper containment, labeling, categorization, and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as a point of contact for waste handling operations and regulatory inquiries.
- Assist in identifying process improvements and implementing waste reduction initiatives.
- Support internal audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting activities. Work Environment 100% onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. The site location is a one-way, approximately 45-minute drive from Santa Fe and approximately 90-minute drive from Albuquerque. May require shift work (nights and weekends).

- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Desired Qualifications
- Experience with hazardous or radioactive waste management operations, including waste categorization and characterization practices preferred.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety practices related to hazardous materials is preferred.

- Map enterprise production architecture and data flows.
- Assist with Production Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools and Bill of Materials integration.
- Support introduction of RFID/Bluetooth technologies into harsh or restricted environments.
- Evaluate data interfaces, user interface needs, and centralized data integration.
- Conduct gap analyses on current vs. future digital production tools.
- Contribute to infrastructure and workflow improvements across multiple projects. Hiring Requirement All new hires must pass a federal background check and drug test, including medical marijuana screening.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, information systems, industrial technology, or related technical field; advanced experience may substitute.
- Department of Energy Q security clearance is required for this role. A TS could be considered for someone who can start quickly.
- 5+ years of experience in production operations, enterprise systems, or digital transformation roles.
- Experience with PLM tools, production architecture mapping, or manufacturing lifecycle systems.
- Knowledge of RFID/Bluetooth technologies and deployment in demanding environments.
- Understanding of data interfaces, data warehouses, and connected production workflows.
- Ability to work onsite in a secure production environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills; able to support multiple projects concurrently.
