Town of Amherst, NY Motor Equipment Operator (MEO) Engineering Department Sewer Maintenance Division Under general supervision, performs all activities relating to the maintenance of the Town of Amherst Sanitary Sewer Collection System.

Examples of Duties:

1. Operation of high pressure sewer cleaning equipment. 2. Hauling materials in single axle and tandem dump trucks for sewer repair projects. 3. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of the sanitary sewer collection system, consisting of pipes ranging in size from 6" to 42" using various cleaning techniques such flushing, root cutting a bucket machines. 4. Flow monitoring the sanitary sewer collection system using permanent and portable flow meters, installing, removing and downloading meters as needed. 5. Performs sanitary sewer and manhole repairs as needed, including manhole frame and cover replacements. 6. Performs restoration of concrete driveways and sidewalks along with lawn restoration, as part of the sewer repair work. 7. Maintains daily records and monthly reports on wastewater operations. 8. Ability to work independently or as part of a team, ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and the ability to operate assigned machines in a safe and effective manner is required. 9. Completes preventative and corrective maintenance work orders on pumps, motors, air blowers and other equipment in a timely manner. 10. Informs supervisor of all problems, deviations, and unfamiliar situations. 11. Adheres to the personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures. 12. Assist other coworkers as needed. 13. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Must possess a valid New York State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - CDL "A" or "B". Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history). Must also pass random drug and alcohol testing during employment. Desired Qualifications Good knowledge of the operation light and medium duty vehicles and equipment. Forklift and Rubber Tire Loader/Backhoe skills a plus. Must have basic knowledge of computers, math and mechanical skills. To perform the essential functions of the Job, must be able to read, write, see, hear, and walk; have good hand/foot/eye coordination to operate equipment; perform strenuous physical activities to include, exerting up to 100 lbs. of pressure; lifting heavy objects; shoveling for long time periods; crawling; bending; walking; kneeling; climbing on and off equipment; operating moving and vibrating equipment; working indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, on level, unleveled terrain, and under constantly noisy conditions; and work in adverse environmental conditions to include inclement weather, hazardous conditions including mechanical, electrical, fumes, odor/dust/mist, chemical, and solid waste substances. Ability to work various shifts in a 24 hour period to include nights, weekends and holidays, if necessary. Sewer Maintenance Division currently works Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Overtime and call-ins may be required on an as needed basis.

Rate of Pay:

$22.28/hour with eight annual increments to a top step of $31.37 per hour.•Rate of pay also impacted by union negotiated cost of living increases.
