Position Summary The Working Face Monitor supports safe, efficient, and compliant municipal solid waste (MSW) disposal operations at the active working face. This role directs and controls traffic flow, coordinates with heavy equipment operators, monitors incoming loads for compliance (including identifying prohibited or hazardous materials), and helps maintain a safe, orderly working face and access routes. Working Face management and daily cover practices are key to efficient MSW operations and controlling nuisance conditions. Key Responsibilities (MSW-Focused)Working Face Safety & Traffic Control Direct customer and hauler vehicles to approved unload locations and keep traffic moving safely around compactors/dozers and other heavy equipment. Serve as a spotter when visibility is restricted; use consistent hand signals/radio communication and remain in the operator's line of sight. Enforce safety expectations including PPE/high-visibility requirements and safe distances in active work zones. MSW Load Monitoring / Waste Screening Monitor MSW loads at the working face for unacceptable, prohibited, or hazardous materials and follow site escalation and documentation procedures when identified. Support customer/hauler education on acceptable waste and disposal practices, and report contamination or improper disposal patterns. Complete routine checks/log entries and report operational issues to supervision (e.g., unsafe conditions, unusual loads, incidents/near misses). Working Face Housekeeping & Operating Practices (MSW) Assist in maintaining a clean, organized working face and haul roads (including litter control and keeping unload areas orderly). Support working-face and cover best practices that help reduce emissions/odors and improve daily operational efficiency. Documentation & Coordination Maintain accurate daily records, including basic logs/checklists and documented observations (as assigned). Coordinate continuously with equipment operators, scale/dispatch (if applicable), and supervisors to prevent congestion and manage safe unloading. Required Qualifications (Must-Have) Landfill Operations Course Certificate (required; proof at time of hire). Minimum 3 years of experience in MSW landfill operations or closely related solid waste disposal/transfer station operations involving active traffic flow and heavy equipment coordination. Demonstrated ability to identify and report unacceptable/prohibited materials and support compliance in waste handling operations. Strong safety mindset and ability to follow written/verbal instructions in active work zones. Ability to work outdoors in all weather and around noise, dust, and heavy equipment typical of landfill environments. Basic documentation skills (ability to complete logs and simple reports accurately). Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have) Prior "working face" spotter/monitor experience directing traffic around compactors/dozers. Familiarity with MSW working-face practices and daily cover concepts. Experience educating customers/haulers on proper disposal practices and preventing prohibited materials entry.

Pay:

$18.00 - $24.25 per hour
