As an Equipment Operator I, youll work hands-on to protect public health and support the essential systems that keep our community running every day. Youll operate a variety of equipment, troubleshoot real-world challenges in the field, and contribute to the maintenance and repair of critical water and wastewater infrastructure. This role offers the chance to build technical skills, work outdoors, and make a direct impact on the reliability and safety of the Citys water reclamation operations. Training and growth opportunities are built in as you develop your career in a vital, high-demand industry. Essential Job Duties Assists in loading and unloading transported equipment. Operates equipment used in the daily activities of the Water & Wastewater Division such as backhoes, dump trucks, jet trucks and light equipment. Transports sand, stone and gravel and other materials to various worksites. Transports tools to and from worksites. Performs maintenance, service and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment. Assists in the construction of water and sewer taps using equipment such as backhoes, ditch witch, jet truck and other related equipment. Assists in the repair and replacement of fire hydrants and water and sewer lines. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical and Environmental Conditions Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while operating equipment or completing projects. Ability to climb, bend and lift materials or equipment used in water and sewer system maintenance. Must be able to lift bags of material frequently. May be exposed to potentially hazardous fumes and odors and mechanical and chemical hazards while completing tasks. Required Qualifications Ability to effectively communicate with employees in order to receive work orders or instructions for any project. Ability to read, interpret and understand local, state and federal regulations related to water and sewer system maintenance. Knowledge of the processes used in utility maintenance. Ability to follow instructions and manuals for equipment repair and maintenance. Skill in the use of various equipment and machinery such as hand and electrical power tools. Skill in the use of heavy equipment utilized in maintenance activities such as backhoes, ditch witch, and jet truck. Ability to read operator's manuals and work orders. High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid Texas CDL Class A driver's license required or must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Must possess or be able to obtain Wastewater Certification Class I and Water Distribution D Certificate with in a reasonable length of time.
