Job Description

Under general supervision, the Utility Services Worker position provides support for the maintenance and repair of water distribution, wastewater collections, and stormwater operations. Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience. Ensures all fluids, tires, and lighting are in operation and that adequate equipment and supplies are available; prepares and checks with crew leader parts and tools for use. Performs daily tasks by meeting with crew leader and traveling to the job site to unload equipment; inspects area and gets tools ready; locates valves and hydrants. Maintains cleanliness of service truck, dump truck, backhoe, trailer, parts, and tools; checks fuel level, tires, lighting operations, and fluids at end of shift; parks vehicles. Trains and or assists other staff members. Assists crew leaders as needed. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is required. One (1) year of general maintenance experience is preferred. Possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid Texas driver's license. Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment, valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with tanker endorsement. Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment, Class D Basic Water Operations license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ); Completion of, or ability to complete within one (1) year of employment, the following courses provided by Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX): Work Zone Traffic Control, Flaggers in Work Zones, Introduction to Backhoe Operation, and Skid Steer Operator. This position may require you to have or acquire a commercial driver's license (CDL). Federal law requires all CDL holders register with the USDOT Clearinghouse before operating a commercial vehicle. You will be required to enroll in the clearinghouse and sign a consent form allowing the City to run your name through the clearinghouse as a condition of employment.
